Mobil-1 has the largest mindshare among the premium oil brands. If you are trying to expand your sales you go after the "big dog". it would make no sense for AMSOIL to attack some other tiny player in this market.

I'm quite confident Mobil-1 is very good oil. I use the 15W-50 in my motorcycles, because of a series of test results published in Motorcycle Consumer News. It was/is among the best oils available. Is AMSOIL better? Maybe - who knows? I can't just run down to WalMart and pick up a case, though.

OIL

I also find it hard to believe in hotter climates, that a 5w30 could not help but to give you better protection! Just my opinion!

2002gray-ghost:

I am about 20 miles northwest of Portsmouth. I live in Somersworth. There are some other interesting post in GENERAL CARE: motorcraft 5W-20.

If it were not for my FORD dealer using 5W-30 and I was changing my own oil I would be using 5W-20. I have read so much different infomation on oils its unbelievable. I hear alot of people on the different post recommending the synthetic blends and from what I can gather it seems to be better protection then just plain oil.

I am seriously considering using the synthetic blends. I plan on owning this truck for a long time so I want the best possible protection for it. I have also heard other people state that its fine to use reg. oil if your changing it every 3,000 miles.

So I am figuring even though the synthetic's are a little more expensive why not go with it if its better for the motor. Kind of like the saying "spend a little money now, or a lot of money later"

01 XLT Sport,

Just something to consider...although synthetic "blends" imply that they 50% syn, 50% conv., some are as little as 10% synthetic. I don't think you are gaining alot in terms of protection or performance by going that route. Frankly I would catergorize that whole issue as a bit of a scam.

All that I can say about it is I've always used 5/30 in my 95 F-150 302 with 135,000 on it and it is still goin strong! I'm gonna stay with what works!

... and another thing to consider: if you look on the back of a bottle of Mobil-1 there is an asterisk next to the words "100% synthetic" with the disclaimer "exclusive of carrier oils" below. I asked the local oil expert what this meant, and he said it is the carrier for the additive package, which is usually just some straight weight refined petroleum. He said it's usually up to 10% of the total mix.

I still stand by Mobil-1, having seen published independent test results. There may be better oil, but 95% of them are not. It's at a good price point and is available everywhere.
