Angry Anyone else having problems with FQR Motors?

We just received a 5.4 FQR motor for a '99 5.4 with the slap problem, the new engine is far from satisfactory, sounds like a diesel at idle and appears to have the same slap problem the original did. Its not as loud, but its still there when cold.

Everyone at Ford says this engine is from HESCO, remaned to Ford specs, I know the Fred Jones motors have had all kinds of problems.

A couple of questions:

1..Anyone else having problems with the remans?

2..Is else anyone receiving a new (2000) motor for thier '99 under factory warranty?

Ford dealer and zone has refused to send us a new motor for this truck only an FQR, saying they cant put anything in but FQR. Even though we are still under factory warranty. Were without the truck for two weeks and now probably more. We are very unhappy with Ford at this point.

Anyone else in this boat?

I've had my FQR for a month, and when it's cold out it sounds worse than the original. And when you put it in gear and hold down the brake, it knocks really loud. The dealer says it's normal and they won't replace it again. However, they gave me the TSB that states it won't affect longevity, but a fix has been incorporated in new AND FQR engines since 5/99. Does that mean I got an old FQR without the fix? If so, I want a new one...

To me, the engine doesn't seem as strong as the original because I can't spin the tires from a dead stop. This is supposed to be the 260hp version. I did race my friends Dodge v-10 and beat him, so I guess it's not all that slow!

MASTERCRAFT>> I DON'T KNOW WHY MY REPLIES KEEP DISAPPEARING AFTER A DAY BUT THIS IS MY STORY. I HAVE A'99 EXPY, 4.6L, 22,000 MILES SLIGHT SLAPPER, MAJOR LEAKER. I WAS TOLD THE DEALER IS USING A NEW 2000 MOTOR. I WON'T KNOW FOR SURE UNTIL I TAKE THE TRUCK IN, THE MOTOR WAS ON ORDER. I AM SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK AND I WILL POST THE RESULT. I WAS EVEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE WRITER THAT FORD HAS A LIST OF ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE CHANGED WITH THE CONVERSION. I HAVE HEARD THAT SOME DEALERS ARE USING FQR AND CLAIMING TO FORD A NEW MOTOR, THE DEALER MAKES EVEN MORE MONEY THAT WAY OR AT LEAST BREAKS EVEN BECAUSE APPARENTLY FORD ISN'T ALLOWING MUCH LABOR HOURS.

a new motor takes less time to install than a fqr as with an fqr u must transfer components, new ones are drop ins so in theory a fqr should pay more, but at least for us ford pays the same, wich insn't much

cold expy, i seriously doubt you are going to get a new motor. make em show you. if they use your intake and air conditioner, you have a FQR, which is a used block. let us know. and i got a 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty on the whole truck for taking the FQR motor. of course, it took 2 months for them to get my freaking truck running again. If you do get the new motor, I am going after ford big time, because they lied to me if they can get a new motor in yours. keep us posted. my FQR has a lot of vibration at idle, and I am getting HORRIBLE gas mileage now for some reason.

Yeah that is exactly what we have now, an FQR that slaps as bad or worse than the original did. This motor is extremely loud at idle, like i said it sounds like a powerstroke at idle.

And my gas mileage is in the tank also, even for a tight motor. This truck is probably getting about 10-11 at best. I dont know if they damaged the O2 sensor, an injector, or if i have a vacuum leak or what, but getting the look at it is like pulling teeth.

I cant belive the Ford would be so cheap as to think owners would stand for remaned engines in trucks still under factory warranty. Toyota and Honda would never pull a stunt like this. (of course they would design the damn thing right to start with) If we had 80k on it, they might have an arguement, but not this time.

I reminded my service manager why there is a difference in what remaned and new water pumps cost we get from them. This reman stuff is a joke and the cheap way to get you out of warranty, where its not their problem anymore.

My dealer billed Ford over 4 grand for this FQR, and it leaks, has a rough idle and slaps.

My next guess is I get the service bulletin stuck in my face that says it wont hurt anything or is normal. Funny how if thats true and this does not hurt longevity, why they are replacing so many motors.

I think the real problem is they dont have a fix for this, if you get lucky and get one that does not slap, good for you, if not, well its "normal"

After all of Chevrolets bad trannys, Fords E4OD and now this:

My next truck will be a Tundra. Bet on it.
