Talking Success Stories

I have read several of the message boards and most seem to deal with problems that people have had with their trucks. Many have posted success stories in response to a thread that I initiated (Reliability of Truck vs Car Survey, just curious) regarding some concerns that I had. I found these to be encouraging. Thus, I am starting a new thread for people to post their success stories. Others reading this board will then have a sample of the users that DON'T have problems with their trucks. Some of the users that have posted high mileage success stories in the other thread are Waldo0506, otterbob, gearmanx17, mlaugh on behalf of bent6, and gopher.

C'mon guys. There has to be somebody (outside of these 5 people) that have had little problems with their trucks. What about those who have had VERY FEW problems? Throw me a bone here.

My truck, '98 F150 13098 miles. Don't have many miles but she has been through 2 Alaska winters working on 3rd. Never been back to the dealers, starts on first try at -40F. I have confidence that when I go snowmachining and park for 5 or 6 hours when I return that Ford will startup and take me home. My third Ford truck and all performed to my standard.

Well, this is not an F-150 but rather a 1986 Bronco II. It stayed in our family for 13 years for a total of 186,000 miles. Not one problem other than oil & filter changes, the normal wear and tear items. I traded it for my new truck. The truck I have now.

chevys sure have some pretty notorious problems. my uncle has er i mean had a 97 silverado 4x4 fully loaded ext. cab that has been nothing but a piece of ****. totally ruined his experience with new vehicles. he bought it new and just recently had to have a transmission put in. he calls it his red piece of ****! lol also has had starter problems (3 different ones) another problem was a leaking head gasket. the first new vehicle he ever bought and it was a junker. he traded it off today for a 93 jimmy that is rusted to the hilt. he is just happier than a two peckered billy goat to be getting rid of his red piece of ****. he just wants to get out from under the payments. he wont ever be buying a new vehicle again! i dont know why he is getting another gm product either!

Thumbs up

First truck: 1979 F-150 2WD. 190,000 miles on the same 302 with 3 transmissions. Changed the 302 for a built 351-C. Still own it.
Second truck: 1988 F-150 4x4. It has about 75,000 miles on it now. I had to change out the electric window motors and it now needs new manifolds. Other than that, no problems. Almost forgot. Ford had a problem with gray paint in 1988 and sent me a letter asking about mine and repainted it after it was 7 yrs old.

My wife has a 1997 Expedition with 55,000 miles on it. Had to replace the stereo.
My F-250 4x4 has 32,000 miles. One coil went out because water dripped on it from a loose connection on the heater hose.
I had a 1997 150 2WD. 55,000 trouble free miles.
I also once had a Monte Carlo SS. When I traded it in they weren't interested in what year it was. Just wanted to know what it weighed so they could scrap it!

Cool

1yr so far, 0 problems(knock on wood). This is better reliability than my new Toyota and Honda. I hoped this vehicle would be fun and reliable, and it has exceeded my expectations. A few minor mods and it handles, stops, rides, and performs well. I did not think that a few minor mods would make it scream so hard. I can only imagine what a shift kit and a gear change to 4:10s would do, much less a supercharger !!

I have a 1986 Bronco II it has 204,000 miles on it. I've had a few sensors go bad, at 150,000 replaced tran. I used to use it to pull a 2000 lb bass boat on regular fishing trips. The wife has a 1996 SHO no problems. The new addition to the family is my 2001 Supercrew. I'm saving it for long trips. My main transportation is the Bronco II. I couldn't see trying anything else since I've had such good luck with Fords.
Before this the wife had a 84 Pontiac (sp) firebird the motor blew. Then a 87 Bonneville Trans. went out at 11,000 mi. and again at 99,000.

Question

About 1 1/2 years ago there was a guy that posted on F150 online that had well over 300,000 miles on his 97 F150 with no major problems. I sure wish I could remember his name??? I think he was from Northwest Canada or Northwestern USA. I remember he had some concerns for some rust forming on his tailgate. Can anyone remember who he was? At the time this site only had 2700 registered members.

I really miss having my old Bronco II, it was such a nice vehicle, that little 2.9 Liter V-6 sure was surprising(sp)! It just seemed to be just the right size, and was pretty good on gas too. Handled good, and the ride was good. Sorry I guess, I'm just wishing I had no payments.

I just have my truck for 2 months but I can say that we're having a terrible winter & the 4 wheel drive is alot easier to get around in! I love my truck - it is reliable & it's stylish too! People are surprised at the ride - it's so "car-like" & the truck sure gets alot of admiring looks from Chevy/Dodge owners too! I am PROUD to drive this truck!
Don't know if this is what you were hoping for but I thought I'd contribute my opinion! Thanks!

------------------
If you can't beat 'em, you're NOT driving a FORD!

'97 Black F150 XLT ORP 4X4
4.6L/auto/3.55 LS/power EVERYTHING,
nerf bars, 17" wheels, fog lights, trailer hitch w/electrical connector, front tow hooks, bed rail caps,
6 CD changer, lumbar support & 3 cow license plates - so far!
I'll fill in the rest as I get to know the truck better BUT it's big, it's pretty & best of all - IT'S A FORD! He's SO cute!

28,000 miles on my '98, described below -- had a squeaking clutch slave cylnder replaced under warranty. Other than that, nothing needed attention, replacement or adjustment.

26,000 miles on my '00 -- working like a clock.

------------------
Black 2000 SC short-box XLT. 4.2 V-6, 5-speed, 3.55 limited-slip. CD, remote entry, factory side steps, rear fender inner splash shields (TSB 00-09-05), FORD box liner.

My third F-series (ordered new). The other two: '73 F-100 Custom, 240 cube 6, 3 on the tree, tan, "West Coast" mirrors, step bumper, knitted vinyl seat, AM radio; and '98 F-150 SC short-box XL, XLS package, Pacific Green, 4.2 5-speed, 3.55 ls, FM-cassette.

GREAT trucks!
