5.0L vs. 3.0L

Me and my friend intel486 race our trucks constantly and the outcome is always the same from the line i blow him away at higher speeds he starts pullin but i am usually pretty far ahead. Until he brought his moms toyota highlander with the v6 i dont know what toyota is doin but this thing is a beast we raced 2 times from a dead stop and from 30+ from the line i took him by about a truck length (because he smoked his tires for like 10 feet) but after that by the time i was goin into 2nd at 45mph he was right next to me and when we both went to 2nd it was like i wasnt even moving he was pulling truck lenght leads on me by the second. When we raced from 30 on it was the same outcome his switched gears and he was gone. It all has to do that his is a 220 hp front wheel driven vehicle and mine is i guess about 200 at the rear wheels and i have alot of weight on him but i have a new found respect for the speed of these things i couldnt believe it

Check the tranny

Im not positive, but check the tranny out on that. It might be a
5 spd. auto. The extra gear makes all the difference, the Rangers and Explorer Sports w/ only 207/205 hp are the same way. pretty quick.

You probably don't have 200 hp at the rear wheels ether. You have around 205 at the crank. You are right you do weigh more and have much more low end torque. But your hp isn't up high like a V6.

if the FIPK is your only mod, youre probably making less than 200 at the wheels (about 210 or so at the flywheel).

tranny

his tranny is a 4 speed auto and btw do the new 4.6L make more hp than my 5? because for me to spin my tires at a stop i have to have 1 tan kof gas depleted and then i can only do it on asfault and really crappy roads on good concrete under the same conditions it doesnt even really make alot of noise the tire just makes 1 revolution then takes of so it doesnt even leave a mark lol this highlander left a few feet of rubber i wish i could do the same (any suggestions)

Yes,

The 4.6L do have more hp like 230 and more torque around 300 ft.lbs.

I see that you have 3:31 gears in your pickup, and also no 4 wheel drive. The lack of 4 wheel dig should make you a little faster. The gears on the other hand are not helping you out at all. If you'd like to be a little faster add some 3:55 or 3:73 gears. Also free up your exhaust like you have your intake. I had a '92 f-150 with a 302, and it would stomp almost every vehicle that I raced. Then again it wasn't too much stock.
If you'd like to know of a few more things you could do let me know and I'd be glad to help ya stomp those Toyota's.

Well it looks like you have free'd up your intake, so the next thing I would do is free up your exhaust to compensate for it.

The gear swap would give you more get-up through out your rpm range.

If your pickup has Mass Air it would benefit from a cam change, these aren't too bad for price wise. It all depends on how into it you want to get.

An electric fan would also free up some horespower if you wanted to go that route.

You could upgrade the ignition, but I have never done this.

I'm sure there are lots of other things you could do, but to start with I'd put on a free-flowing exhaust with headers if you choose. Those make a big big difference on the 302s.

If you'd like any more advice let me know.

i havent done any cam changes but my dad has done many i just dont know if he is up to it anymore and yes i have a MAS
i am thinking about exhaust are headers on these trucks easy to bolt on or will i have to modify alot and what exhaust system do you recomend
i really just want to be able to spin my tires no matter what the condition was is the easiest way for me to acomplish this

oh and btw if i race my friends tacoma 4cyl i blow him away off the line but at interstate speeds it is close he usually wins
and should a 95 have a top speed limiter because my speedo only goes to 90 but i got a chance to make a high speed run and i had the needle pegged at 90 for a good 30 sec and she was still accelerating slowly i guess i was at about 100-105

The headers are a fairly straight forward job to bolt up. Personally I've run long tube headers, and re-did my whole exhaust. IF you didn't want to get new cats etc, you could go with direct fit shorties and they would help up your low end power even more.

As for exhaust, that is totally up to you, and what kind of sound you want to get out of it. I like my pipes to be loud and to maintain the original power. I doubt I have gained any power from my exhaust set up on my '99, but my '92 did feel significant gains. I ran full tube headers, true duals with no mufflers.

IF you want your top-end to be faster, you would have to invest in a superchip to over-ride your factory settings.

ill look into the exhaust ill try to convince my dad into letting me buy headers and i think i might go with a si/so magnaflow cause i have heard good things about them

You might not have a top speed limiter you might have a rev limiter. My '92 had a Rev limiter. I believe it cut off at 4,000 RPMs.

Here is a list of what I would do, exhaust, gears, chip.

You still won't beat it

I'm trying to find atleast a cold air filter for the highlander but there isn't anything out there. Not sure where to go. Wouldn't mine getting a chip for it also.
