I was wondering: I have the K@N filter, modified exhaust with FM40, and the Superchip. Each proclaim some amount of HP and torque gain. I know that mods ARE NOT additive when it comes to figuring HP/torque and using a dyno is probably as close as someone can get to the actual ranges. But in generalities and for conversational purposes, what would be a good estimate of HP after the above mods have been done to the 260 hp 5.4?

HI!... CASPERII : I would estimate that you have about 290-300H.P at the flywheel. It matters on exactly what mods you have done. Is your K&N a drop in filter or a FIPK? Are you running true duel exhaust or just a cat-back with a single muffler?

Neal, Thanks for the reply. I only have the drop in filter and single in/dual out FM 40 with 2 1/2" pipes out the back, finished with 3" x 24" Tennessee Tips. I would like to think I have that much HP but would also like to hear from others with thier opinions. For big, heavy trucks, these things run like "scalded dogs"!

 

I would guestimate that you are getting about 280hp out of the engine, and that number will decrease as the engine ages.

 

HI!... CASPERII : Now that I know exactly what your set-up is, it's easier to figure out a estimated H.P for you. The SUPERCHIP is good for 28H.P and 46FT/LBS of torque. There are those here on this board that will say it is a lot less than 28H.P, but none of them have come up with HARD proof yet. I knocked off 6.3 tenths in the 1/4 mile with my SUPERCHIP alone. That's enough proof for me! The drop-in K&N filter is only going to be good for about 2-3H.P. A K&N FIPK or AIRAID kit will gain you 14H.P on a 5.4, proven on a"EDDY" current dyno. (extremely accurate dyno machine)I would suggest to you to look into one of these filter kits. Your cat-back, I guess is worth about 7-10H.P at the most. True duels would of been a better choice for you in the H.P department. Some will say that true duels will cost you low-end torque, but if you do your research and use MANDREL bends, you will actually gain low-end torque like I did. I proved this by my 60FT times at the dragstrip compared to when I had my stock exhaust. I could also feel it in my "BUTT-DYNOMETER"!LOL! I would NOW estimate that your H.P is somewhere around 295H.P and about the same for torque.
P.S : I would also look into a set of ASP power pulleys as well. They are pretty cheap for the H.P that you get in return. Ask MIKE TROYER about your estimated H.P gains with the mods you have and the ones you plan on later. He gets all the EXACT H.P #'s from SUPERCHIP's "EDDY" current dyno testing on their chip and aftermarket products. NEAL
