Engine swap?
I'm thinking the same thing.
I've got my eyes out for a 5.4 and manual tranny from a superduty to swap in my truck when it hits 36,000 plus miles.
Anyone have any suggestions? comments or source of engines or transmissions to check out? I've got 16,000 miles to find out.

Sounds good guys. It would be best to get the tranny with the 5.4 out of a SD, but you will have to use the transfer case as well. Figure possibly new crossmembers and of course the complete wiring harness and cpu out of the donor truck. Figure new driveshafts and how to hook up a speedo sensor, since the SD is off the RABS sensor on the axle and F-150's in the t-case.
It might be easier to find out the feasibility of how the 5.4 might bolt up to the stock tranny you have or fab an adapter, but the SD tranny is much stronger.
The other problem is actually finding a SD with a manual tranny, because they are sooo rare. I wanted a manual but couldn't find one unless I ordered the truck.
I want to find a V-10 for mine, but others will say to just sell the truck and buy what you want.
Without changing the subject, a supercharger for the 4.6 might be more practical and the 4.56 gear change in my old 1998 F-150 4.2L made a big difference in power.
Not trying to start a war, an XLT F-250 supercab 4x4 can even be less than a comparable F-150 and get the V-10 for $500. Plus you get full floating axles and generally stroger everything else. Don't get me wrong, I miss my '98 F-150.
