Arrow For all you cold weather drivers...

Just curious if anyone has looked at those cold weather fronts that you can put on the grill of your truck.

I find them to be a bit on the ugly side, but thought that maybe someone has installed on on the inside of their grills. I figured that this might help me get the motor warmed up now that it has gone cold here and the trips that i am making are rather short.

I might try to make make one myself, and I will post the results.

But if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,

I had a set for my Chevy and they do work. The Lund brand usually goes for $40.00. But you can always use a piece of cardboard and paint it black so it's not so noticeable.

Cool

I've seen ones that snap into your existing grill, I thought about getting it, but I'm concern it will scratch the grille.

Thumbs up

bambino, there is a company (fia, i think) that has avail. a snap on cover for the winter and screen for the summer in the same kit. i have one on the super duty/powerstroke it helps for warm-ups in the winter and for keeping bug guts out of the radiator in the summer. (about $40.00 U.S)

Talking

I've got one of those Lund "screen front"
2 piece inserts on mine. Love it,I leave it
on all year, and no bugs at all in the radiator. Doesn't overheat either. The "cold front" is the same thing, but with no holes. I've checked my grill out when I take them off for cleaning,no scratches.
I think he's talking about those quilted vinyl looking things, and yes,I agree that they are ugly. I guess they could help a little,,,,,98

Thanks for the responses guys, I think i'll look into one - but i was wondering if anyone has installed one behind their grill, so as not to have to look at the quilty look so visible.

I might pick one up and see if i can get it installed between it and the radio...

Thx

Cool

fordification, it has not been too cold lately - coldest was -22 on morning. I think it was -14 this morning...

Its no biggie really - i just wasn't keen on the appearance of those quilted fronts on my clean looking truck. I think i'll check it out this weekend.

Another thing, I see a lot of people with the chrome grill inserts or glossy black ones - do you think they might provide to a degree the same function as the quilted fronts?

Thx

Bambino, I've been running just the Lund screen front year round and have absolutly no complaints about my truck's ablity to warm up quickly and maintain temp. They say with modern vehicle you do not have to bother with winterfronts at all.

Cool

Sounds Good roden -

My truck warms up in about 2km of driving - but the reason that i wanted to have it warm up a bit more is that the oil at the filler cap was getting a bit murky. I only drive about 9km to work each day - and didn't want to start plugging my truck in already to prevent it. I guess i'm getting a bit too crazy on this idea...thx for the posts guys.
