Smile a few basic questions...

I just became the very proud owner of a 2000 F-150 5.4 XLT SC 4x4 Flareside. All I can say is wow. I like it more and more every time I drive it.
Anyways, what wieght oil should I run in it? 5w-30 in the winter, change to 10w-30 in the summer? Also, whats the Motorcraft oil filter number? Does anyone know if there are numbers on the motors to match up to the VIN?
Just for curiosity sake.

Happy to have added another Ford to the arsenal!

You will want to run a quality oil of 5w-30, year round. Don't mess with 10w-30 or any other oil. Warranty states to use 5w-30. I hear that the 2001 actually are using 5w-20. Because of the tolerances, you need a thin oil to lubricate everything. I've ran Valvoline 5w-30 in my 4.6 for 47,000 trouble free miles now. Do a search on synthetic oils if you are curious about going that route. Either way, Good Luck.

Your driving the best.

Congrats on your new truck! Stick with 5W-30 oil for your 2000. There is no reason to switch to the heavier 10W-30 in the summer. I live in Georgia and have never had a problem when the temp is pushing 100 degrees or higher.
