Question O2 Sensor reading "rich" on 4.9L

I put a new O2 sensor in my truck 10 months ago (1991 F150 4x4 4.9L I-6). However its been running ****ty ever since. I tested the out voltage on the sensor this weekend and it was reading .8-.9 volts at idle. My book says it should be reading .3-.55 volts. When I disconnect it, the truck runs a lot better. Is there anything that would cause this *BESIDES* a bad O2 Sensor...? I had the head and intake tract "de-carboned" right after I put the new O2 sensor in there. Could this have damaged the sensor..?
Thanks,
- Nealio
