4.6 Engine Life?
Ahhh, got yah now. Turning my statement around with a rolling eyes face I took as sarcasm against me, and as an endorsement to use old school HD oil in a modular engine. I see no real difference between 5w/20 and 5w/30 in a 97 up engine, I just use the one specified in the manual.,,,,98
Long Life 4.6
Hi All.
New to the forum.
Picked up a 1997 F150 Reg cab long box 2WD last week with......
get this 436,520 km's (271,240 miles)
and as far as I can find out still the original motor! Pasted e-test (Canada).
I checked this board last week to see if there were any big problems with the 4.6's, and not seeing many I snapped it up for a song because of the mileage. Body is mint and is quieter all around than my 99 Grand Am that has 167,987 km's on it .

High Miler
Bent6,
I don't mind telling what I paid. $3,923.16 US
out the door plated and driving. Like I said the body is perfect and the front end was done not long ago, and recent oil change stickers on the door jam. Was a company truck (a foreman I think) .

F150 4.6L 4x4 standard
Yes, please keep us informed. This is the interesting information we are looking for. I would be interested in the condition of the ring groves.
There is a lot of indication from oil analysis that there is very little wear in these engines. What you are seeing shows that. How much power loss are we talking about? Did you do a compression test?

I'm just putting in my two words of advice I am getting an f150 from a friend cheap needs a lot of work, maybe over $1400 in work overall at your cost but roughly $700 my parts cost. 4.6L engine 4x4 standard. This truck has 550,000K on it and runs well. I will be doing some work on it soon and test drive it and the whole 9, as far as i know the engine hasn't been rebuilt but my buddy is a heavy duty mechanic so it could have a rebuilt engine but I will keep you posted as the week goes by.
