Question Question for anyone

I read in an older post of a suggestion about removing portions of the air box for increased air flow. I was wondering if there is actually pressure built up in the air box due to the force of the wind at speed (flowing in the intake tube). Could this actually help push air into the engine? Would drilling holes in the box actually lower this pressure and reduce cfm's? I later thought - if this were the case then the air raids and such would not work to increase performance. Let me know what y'all think. Have I out thunk myself? I was considering this since I already have the K&N filter and don't want to spend the money on the large kit. Thanks in advance for your replies. -- Martin

MWKellner,

On a *well engineered* ram air system you will start to see a power increase at around 100 mph. And then it is very slight. At best you will see less than 1 psi of pressure in the intake at well above 100 mph.

Good question.

Wink

Thanks 98fword, I figured that i might have outdone myself. My next question would be is there any benefit in removing the "duct" that comes from the front of the truck, or drilling holes in the bottom of the air box (before the filter)? Will this increase air flow, and will that increase performance? Thanks alot, I really appreciate this board! -- Martin
