Talking anyone seen the 240hp-4.6L??

Just wondering if anyone has got a hold of the new 240 hp 4.6L. I am considering getting the 5.4L but with the problems (in assembly at windsor, it seems) I might go for the newer engine given the better record (and opionions of those I know who have one).

I know the revised 4.6 is untested, but...

Call me a guinea pig....

Karl,

What Assembly problems in windsor are you refering too? My '01 has a windsor powerplant in it....

As for my opinion, I love my 5.4L. The only thing that I might rethink is getting the 3.73 rear instead of the 3.55

I think Ford must be backing off the 240 number. I saw something on their web site that listed it at 231@4750 rpms.

Can anyone definatively state what the 2001 hp numbers are for the 4.6?

I got a brochure from the dealer on the F150 King Ranch Supercrew. Base engine is listed as the 4.6L, 231HP, 293ftlb. I have also been told/heard the 4.6 is rated at 240 hp. Not found solid data to back up yet.

karl/arbee - I've got the same questions before ordering my Supercrew - 4.6 or 5.4. Got question posted on "Supercrew" board. Interesting comments on both motors. Driven both in a Supercrew - not a whole lot of difference unloaded, 2WD. Sure there is a difference pulling a trailer/loaded or 4WD.

Wink

LeatherRebel:

Just a few small problems in 5.4's (mainly) built in Windsor. Piston slap, warped heads, leaking head gaskets..small stuff. ;-)

Actually these problems affect a small % of engines. Mostly worked out by now, I hope.

There is plenty of info on it here in this group, just surf around. There is a piston slap faq around too.

4.6 are built at windsor and at romeo, the windsor is like the 5.4 but with a shorter stroke, the romeo has differnt valve cover bolt pattern among other things

Check out this press release: https://www.f150online.com/fordnews/69.html

Looks like hp will be 231. I wonder what the story is on this. Why make so much noise in the brochures and elsewhere about the 240 hp 4.6 if they weren't sure it would be 240.
