NEW FORD PRODUCT
I was thinking the same thing with my truck
V-6 and 5 speed. I spent the money and I love it. It's a whole different engine with the chip in it period. Sure it's still a V-6
and all But I did a test, after about a month
I pulled the chip, drove it around for a tank of 89 octane ( I'm cheap) and I was hating it and couldn't wait to put the chip back in.
It's staying in.
I also have the Airaid, it's ok but if I had to decide between the two I'd get the chip.

I had a feeling it was bogus. The info just seemed a little vague. Like the given 0-60 time and the mpg without saying whether it's a 2wd or 4wd F-150 with the 5.4L. It sure did suck me in though. The interview made it pretty realistic. Nice job SomeGuy001!
Going back to the Superchip discussion, I have the same feeling about them. Sure they do have some nice gains, but with the cost of premium, the +- in dollars would be minimal. Up here, premium is at around $0.87/L(cdn), which is about $2.14/Gal(us), if my math is correct. With premium alone your gaining some mpg, without the use of the chip. I wish they could develop the chip to be used with low or mid grade fuel.

Not sure, but I don't think the stock program can take advantage of the premium grade fuel. I think they run better with plain jane 87 like the book call for because it burns faster? I dunno...is it best to run 87, or 89, or 91 in an un-chipped truck?

OK< so now it's an admitted hoax..on the one hand it angers me, because I instantly had to go to many different sources to see just what the deal was, if any, but on the other hand, I *do* love a great practical joke, and this was a doozey!
And I want to thank this "SomeGuy001", if what he posted is now factual about it being a hoax he wanted to play on a buddy, for telling everyone that if they want a good chip, to go to Superchips. Too bad he won't tell us his *real* name, maybe we'll ask the Webmaster to get us his IP address, and play a little joke on *him*, eh?
I just hope Car & Driver doesn't get PO'd & sue!

Hi Jackal & Fordification,
With the factory program, using anything more than 87 octane is a waste of money, the factory program cannot take advantage of premium gas like the Superchip does.
We have seen many posts from people who have used premium gas with the factory program, and compared it to the mileage they got on regular and with the Superchip on premium, and we've had mixed results. One or two said they got a little bit better mileage on premium, the rest all said they dropped mileage when using premium with the factory program. This is due to the fact that the fuel curves are programmed for the burn rate of the octane level, and using premium with the factory program can cause driveability problems (as warned about in most owner's manuals), worse throttle response, worse performance and worse mileage, that is what has been posted here most often. With the factory program there is just not enough timing and the fuel curves are off, they are set for 85-87 octane. so when you use higher octane the motor tends to "lay down", and get soggy in it's throttle response by comparison, due to the slower burn rate of the higher octane fuel. Today's truck engine's are just too low in compression to utilize premium fuel with the factory programming to good advantage.

I checked with cjb.net, they said the email of the person running that site was sniper@roadrunner.nf.net and his name is Justin H... That is all they could disclose, having a friend who is a system admin at cjb has it's perks =)
gdblake,
It's a HOAX, not a real product, no chip can ever make anywhere near those kinds of gains on the 5.4 F-150. Check a few posts above, and you'll see the fellow who posted it confessed right here in this same thread that it was a practical joke he played on a friend. The product (the so-called F-Mod chip) does not exist.
However, the Superchip does exist for your 4.6, with maximum peak gains of 26 horsepower and 40 lbs./ft. of torque. If you'd like details, please feel free to shoot us an email or give us a call, our contact info is just below.
Best of luck with your truck,

Well first of all its all a practical joke that was supposed to be for 4 people alone, I never posted the joke page here so don't get pissed off with me! if you have a problem take it up with jermy2001. He posted it not me, as for car and driver™ actually carying .. doubtful in the first place .. but if you didn't see it on the very bottom of the page ina light gray small text it does say that the site is a hoax and is in NO WAY affilated with Car and Driver or Ford Motor Company ... so there is no reason for hem to persue it :P and even if you got my IP ... what would you do with it .. you even touch my server and id have your *** throw in jail. Not to get mad ... but if you got caught I would have charges pressed. also do you really think I would use my own e-mail and name to sign up for a CJB site that I was using to play a prank on a close friend? not likly ... he woul have checked it as well and I needed all areas covered. But in conclusion I am again sorry you guys waisted your time with "F-MOD".

PS as you will notice the site is down

Hey SomeGuy,
Let's see, you pull this prank, and when you get responses you don't like, you want to make threats of jail, etc.? Right. You can pull pranks, but nobody else can? I don't think so.
In reality, I don't think anybody cares enough about you or your server, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. My comments about getting Steve to check your IP to identify you were just joking with you, so don't be so paranoid. It did **** me off a bit, as I commented above, due to all the extra work that we had to go to immediately, bothering sources at Car & Driver (who do know about this, by the way) and at Ford.
And as I also mentioned, I also thought it was funny as hell to pull a practical joke like that, and I do love a good practical joke.
We all know you *added* the disclaimer at the bottom later on, it was not there during this "controversy", otherwise your prank would not have worked if your friend would have seen the disclaimer. I was glad to see that you added that, so people would know if they bothered to read. I printed it out and immediately faxed it to a number of sources for them to check it out, such as C&D, Ford, etc., before that disclaimer was added. Hopefully they'll see it as just a funny prank, too, as they should.
Look, I don't think anyone is terminally PO'd at you, in the final analysis, I think the whole thing is pretty funny. You played a great practical joke on your friend, and I hope it worked for you.
You were honest enough that once you realized it was causing a stir, you came here and posted that it was just a joke so everone would know, and added the disclaimer to the site, and that's commendable on your part. Damage control.
So we *all* had a good laugh, hopefully.

OK good i am glad that nobody took offence to that and like I said ... sa soon as i knew it had been posted I did make a disclaimer and post the first apology letter. As for jail well .. as you can obviously tell it is very hard to tell the tone of ones voice on a message board and I took it to be serious ... I Apologise for that
well anyway I again am very sory for the fact that you all had to actually view the page.. had i known sooner the page would have been killed. It did actually work against our friend just to let you know and we laughed but i wasn't impressed at the fact that it had been posted here without my concent. If there is ever a next time I will make sure that a full disclaimer is located at the bottom and an E-Mail where I can be reached to confirm its NON_Authenticity. This is probably the last time I will post on this site because personally I am not a truck fan ( just my opinion and my needs ... don't take offence :P ) and again I apologise and hope nobody took it to seriously. Thank you all for understanding it was a joke and have a nice life.

Hi Some Guy,
Nice post, thanks. I think we'll all cool on this here, and we all got a good laugh out of it.
You're absolutely right, sometimes it is hard to determine the tone & perspective of the written word, I find myself having to go back and explain more sometimes too, I think it's inherent in message board traffic as again, it's the written word, with no vocal inflections or tone or facial expressions to give us the "rest of the picture".
Good luck in your next adventure!
