increased performance

What would be the number one modification for increased performance and/or fuel economy for a 5.4 liter engine.

that is a pretty broad question. depending on your budget it probably be a superchip or on the other end of the spectrum probably a superchip.

I,m a novice when it comes to engine modifications. What does a super chip actually do,how many manufacturers are there and approximately how much would it cost? After the chip are air and exhaust changes reguired?

A chip alters the engine's calibration, usually so it can properly use higher octane fuel.

IMHO: you should do the airbox mod and upgrade your exhaust, probably to an X-pipe dual out system with high flow mufflers. Then do the chip.

superchip is $235

there are others...but there is no substitute for a superchip. go ask Mike T. in the computer chip forum for more info. it is the most bang for your buck mod on the market. you will be very happy with it. it is also really easy to install. you can do it yourself even if you have never installed anything else in your life. as for doing FIPK, exhaust and chip...it does not really matter which order you do them in. The chip will not need a reburn for these minor mods. you can get a nice FIPK (Airforce 1) and a superchip from mike T. for a package deal. i would recomend it. just my .02
