Help! 5.4L PS Replacement Expectations
First off, I'd like to thank all of you who have posted information about the relentless piston slap problem!!! With out all of the great info I would not have the pleasure of asking this question.
I recently got my dealer to admit that I have a PS engine, and they are in the process of getting my replacement. Now, I am VERY interested in the BIG differences between the 99 5.4L and the new 00 5.4L....
Should I notice a significant increase in power, MPG, towing capabilities, etc...??
I've noticed that quite a few folks on this forum have fought hard for the replacement, and I'd just like to know if it was really worth all of the HELL that Ford likes to put people through.

Anytime J.B.1
Like Wichita_Greg said, you would have to see.
Some have reported that they got a new motor, others not. Seems like the results are up in the air, as to which dealer you have replace it, if the factory is short rebuilds or not, and how much noise you make.
Good Luck, hope all works out.

Greg, Thomas,
Thanks again for the info!!!!
In fact, I had asked the tech if it was going to be a rebuilt, or a new engine, that would be dropped in my truck. He said that it would be new, but I do agree with you!!! I need to give it a visual before they stick me with a rebuilt P.O.S.
Is there anything other than wear and tear to look for on the rebuilts??
Thanks!

that is what i thought it meant
but thanx anyway
i am supposed to go get my truck tomorrow afternoon, so i am curious to see what i got. the ford guy told me that there are not any rebuilt motors available so i "suppose" to get a new engine from the factory. but i will definately post my findings.....

99 f150 have 260 hp and 345lb torque, the 97-98 had 235 and 330 lb. The super duty 5.4l got the power boost for 2000. The difference is the cylinder heads, they also got rid of the intake runner control in the 260hp 5.4l.
99's used to get new engines, but since the change to 2001 they are only suposed to get fqr, if u get a new one let me know as i work for ford and i still cant get a new engine for my 99
