Your situaiton is a bit unique, in that you were running a stock exhaust system on a truck that has a supercharger, a custom Superchip, etc., so you basically had a bottlecork in your exhaust all this time. Opening that bottlecork by installing the exhaust system has helped power across the board, I'm guessing.

Once you get the headers installed, it'll wake up a bit more.

ToDaBone,

Where did you get the Powerdyne and how much did you pay for it. I've done some searching on the web and the cheapest I found was $2450.00 w/o shipping.
Also, have you did any runs with the 4x4 engaged. I was curious if you could shave off a few tenths. I always felt my truck pulls alittle harder with the 4x4 on.

I'm not real sure the front end will take that kind of shock. If you are breaking the rear loose, that would put all the truck's weight on the chain drive transfer case & driveshaft & u-joints. Might check with someone that knows the drive setup better.

Post 5.4 with Z-33 here are the Results.

I just had a Catback system with custom bent pipes installed.I was wondering if i was going to see any gains or losses with the system. So I just ran out to do some 0 to 60 times with the G-Tech and you are not going to believe what happened. The firt run i launched the truck like i normally do and it lit the tires off more then it had ever done. The time was 6.96. The second run is where i really got to see the diffrence it just broke total traction and took 50 to 70ft to connect solid and the time was 7.15. Let me tell you i have done a lot of runs and this truck could never come close to doing this before the Z-33 install. well i decided to change my launch somewhat and the third and forth runs were 6.78 and 6.83. Before the install i had run a best of 6.89 to 7.25 with the average around the 7.0 mark. A lot of people said to expect to loose bottom end torque but i have seen gains down there with out a doubt. Also my times are improved. I thought i was only getting bark with this thing but it is very nice to get some bite with it too.

Not that impressive to me. 1/10 or so gain? Thats pretty poor performance for the cash!

I'll bet the 1/4 times should be better gains....

IF the exhaust you had was that restrictive, you would have seen better results.

Some people get 1/10 out of a K&N, or better gas!

Lastly, I'm very skeptical about these G-Tech devices. How accurate are they?

REDLARIAT: What are you kidding me? None of these trucks are setup to do what this guy has done! I'm sure he's going to pay for the fun (tires, suspension, trans, rear, engine components).... The engine will probably take the punishment if he does not have the boost too high. If he drives it easy, which I doubt (why would he), he might get some life out of the truck.

Should have bought a used Z28, would have cost less than setting up your truck and ran much faster!

Have fun with it!

Cool

The way i look at it its going to save me a bunch of money. I was thinking about putting gears in this thing like 4.10s and the price was 1200 dollars or so. I am not going to do it now since this thing is pulling so hard off the bottom plus i think the gains are going to be about 2.0 to 2.5 tenths in the 0 to 60 run. Before the average was around 7.0 i think now its going to be 6.75 to 6.80. Also i wanted the exhaust more for the sound and didnt realize i would get that gain so i am all smiles.

Question

Rand,

I agree with Mike on this one. In fact, I am in the same situation.

There IS a method to the madness. I started with the blower alone so I could give everyone an idea of what a blower is capable of with no other mods.

Next came the chip as a matter of necessity (I was concerned with A/F ratios, rev limit, removing the governor, etc...). In addition, it is much easier to sort out problems (if they occur) by performing one mod at a time. Now I have proven to myself just how restrictive the stock exhaust is, but I am still EXTREMELY happy with the performance.

Exhaust is the next thing on my list. What exhaust system do YOU recommend if these gains are not so impressive? Are you aware of a system yeilding higher gains?

In my experience, .2 sec means a fender length, and ROUGHLY equates to a 20 hp gain.

By the way- The information I have seen on the G-Tech is you can expect a .2-.3 sec variance. Consistency is the key to getting a good baseline for comparison purposes.

I am sure I am not at the power that ToDaBone Awesome machine is at but I thought since you are worried about slamming in the front wheels during takeoff I would fill you in on my experience.
My NAV has AWD. This means almost every time I accelerate (Dry or Wet pavement) My back tire break loose slamming in the front wheels. (This all happens in less than a second at a medium throttle push). I think Ford has this in mind when they designed our vehicles. Making them Ford tough. Tough enough to handle this kind of driving. If it was made to handle a full toque slam (ME) I am sure it can handle being in 4WD at takeoff.

I will find some snow and ice and just punch it… If my transfer case drops Ill let you know. (Just kidding)
That’s what AWD’s for right?

My 2 cent worth. I was worried too at one time.
