engine swap with FI
I have a 85 F-150 4x4 with a FI.302 runs very rough and have blow buy in the #6 cylinder the rest of the motor is fine except for that problem. can I use the bottom end from a 78 302 and change over intake ect the motor i want to put in runs great but would rather have the FI part of the deal. Need to here if there are any hidden things I should know about before doing the swap please help if you can it would be great. GODSMK@AOL.COM

I made shch a swap several years ago--1992.
Put a rebuilt & warmed up 70 something in my 90 Lariet.The fi all fits on & works good. Be sure to use the flexplate/flywheel & front balance wheel off the 78 or buy new for that year. Ford changed the way they balance the 302 early 80's. You'll be sorry if you use the stuff off the 85. I know.

If you put the 78 block & crank in the truck, be sure to use the 78 balancer & flexplate or flywheel. The reason I said "buy" is it depends on which tranny the truck currently has. If its auto, you need a 78 flexplate. Standard , a 78 flywheel. I don't know what your truck now has & the donor engine has. If the donor is auto & your truck is standard, you'll need a 78 flywheel & vice-versa. If they are both auto, use the 78 flexplate. Hope that clears it up some.
