Post Power Steering

First, let me say that I do understand that this is an engine message board, however since there is no power steering board, please be kind.

I have noticed that my PS is kinda noisey. If I am not moving and turn the wheel 90 degrees any direction there is increased noise. That noise makes sense to me. I also here that same noise when I am turning into a parking lot at 20 mph or when I have to turn the steering wheel more then 120 degrees while driving. I have checked the PS fluid and it is full. The truck is less than a month old with 2600 miles. Is this normal?

Thanks Everyone for all your help

I have a 2000, and I too noticed that the PS was a little loader than my old truck. I think it's normal.

Definately normal, I bought mine used with 24k,now at 47k and it has done it since I've had it. Although it has been replaced once for a leak, the new one was just as noisy. I don't really notice anymore(got used to it I guess) don't worry,,,,,98

Just got my F-150 back from the dealer after having my power steering pump replaced. I had only 10k miles on it and had also noticed it being a little louder than what I would consider normal. Driving to work it just quit totally (power steering that is ). Upside was ford replaced it the next day. Maybe something to watch for?

Thumbs up

Try some Amsoil transmissiom fulid, sounds funny, but it really works. Buddy of mine told me to take a turkey baster and suck it out and full it back up. Than suck it out again to make sure you get most of the power stering fulid out and fill it back up with Amsoil transmission fulid. It took out all the noise out, I was stund. Good luck

Question

My f-150 only has 3500 miles on it but I've also noticed that the PS pump is noisy. It's been that way from day one, but is only obvious when I take turns slowly. I have a question though, does anyone know how to improve the "on center" feel of these trucks on the freeway? I was wondering if a steering stabilizer shock would help. I know that they're intended for off road use but maybe someone has tried one and found it helpful.

my truck has great "on center" steering return. Maybe your's needs 4-wheel alignment.

Thanks, I'll get the alignment checked and see if it helps. You'd think that it would come from the factory with the proper alignment. Although...I just had my Ranger's tires replaced under the Firestone recall and when I got home I checked the tire pressure. 26, 28, 31 and 33psi ...go figure!

Ford power steering has always been noisy. I've had 4 F-series trucks, all have been noisy...
