Post I think I have bad gas! Help!!!!!!!!!!

I just went to fill my truck up on my lunch break. I went home, and truck ran fine, as it did when I drove to work. I went to my local Amoco, and filled it up with regular 87 octane gasoline. It ran very bad. The whole truck would shake it was running so badly. I went to a dealer and asked if I could have gotten water in the tank. He told me that it could be the problem, and to put a couple of bottles of Heet in. I did, but it is still running poorly. On the way back, after putting in the Heet, the check engine light flashed for about a minute, indicating a misfire, then has stayed on steady. The manual says that if it's on steady it could be, among other things, water in the fuel. It said to run through 3 cycles, which consists of a cold start, highway and city driving, and then stopping. After that if it is water in the fuel, it should correct itself. I have to go out of town for the weekend, and want to know, should I drive my truck. It's about an hour and a half drive. Sorry for the long post.

Brian

Something like this happened to me after I got gas and I did the treatment thing too. Check engine light, everything the same. Turned out by coincidence the #4 coil shorted out from an antifreeze leak from a heater hose above it. It was covered under a TSB and warrenty.

Otherwise maybe your fuel filter is clogged.

Hmm... I hope that's not the problem. I'm bringing it into the shop today and have them look at it. I'm hoping that it's just bad gas, but I was having a misfire. Thanks for the info!

Hey Brian...my truck has been doing similar things. The CEL came on for about 50 miles, and the exhaust stinks to high hell. I'm taking it in tomorrow.

Mine was doing the same thing, it ended up that my truck finally when I turned it off once and went to start it, it wouldn't start. Turns out that the fuel pump had stoped working. It was running very rough at idle and missing and wouldn't rev right. It was very weird because it had been running better until I filed the tank after a three hour trip up north, and then it started running very bad, then the check engine light came on and the next day it wouldn't start....

I got a tank of dirty gas that was so bad I had to change the fuel filter 3 times. It would just clog up to were there was little flow. Same rough running you describe.

Don't ever fill up if the tanker's at the station.

Took it in on Friday, bad coil on #4 cylinder. $250 later, it's running as good as ever. Thanks for the replies.
