Question Mobile 1 filters

Does anyone know for sure if Mobil 1 filters have the anti-drain back valve. I did a search and only found one negative comment and that concerned the anti-drain back valve. I bought three of these filters last week, should I use them or return them???

Not sure about the Mobil 1 filters. I am using Mobil 1 Synthetic oil with a Motorcraft filter. The Motorcraft filters works very well.

You can't open the box and look to see for yourself?

It's either made of rubber or silicone.

I would recommend their use. Yes, it does have the valve.

What does the anti-drain back valve look like

Lets see.

There is the big hole in the middle of the filter-Then there are the eight or so smaller holes around that big hole.

The Antidrain valve will be a rubber looking piece that is just behind those small holes, some are orange and some are black. but this is what keeps the oil from draining oil of the filter when your engine is off.

Hope this helps

Yes it has the valve. Secondly, I only know of 1 filter that is supposedly better, Amsoil. The Mobil1 filter has one of the best flow characteristics due to its filter composition. It also achieves high flow without giving up filtration properties. In other words, it flows better than most and filters as well as the best!

It will filter as well as the Motorcraft but the Mobil1 will allow oil to flow through the filter faster at startup and under stress. Its also has a stronger casing than most others.

Very VERY high quality filter. But at a price! Around $10.

If you only use your truck to drive on the road, no severe duty use, and change the oil properly (according to your use), there is no reason you can't stick with Motorcraft.

Towing, off-road, lots of cold starts, etc... You might want to think about using better oil and filters.... That is, if you care about wear!

Question

I am about to do my first oil change on my beloved SCrew. I am going to use Mobil 1. My questions are:

Do you need to use a different oil filter with synthetic oil?

Do any of you have your dealer change your oil, and if so, are they willing to put in a non Motorcraft motor oil?

Thanks in advance for your help.

MikenTennessee,

You do not have to use a special filter when running synthetic oil. Mobil 1 filters use a synthetic material rather than paper, and this supposedly allows better flow rates. I use the Mobil 1 filter (M1-210) and think it is a great filter..but expensive. The Motorcraft FL-820S is also a fine filter..and I still use it from time to time. The Mobil 1 filter has the silcone anti-drain back valve AND a bypass valve (that the Motorcraft does not have).

I have Mobil 1 5W-30 and a Motorcraft filter on my truck at this time. On the next change, I plan on using the Mobil 1 filter again.
