Post Burnt Coils

Anyone had any problems with coils? I have a 98 F-150, 5.4. All at once engine started missing so I took it to the dealer and they told me I had a burnt coil on number 4. Any experience with this or what may be the cause?

Thumbs up

THE #4 COIL IS LOCATED ON THE PASSANGE SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND HAS A HEATER HOSE RUNNING DIRECTLY ABOVE IT. THE HOSE CLAMP ABOVE THE #4 COIL ISNT ANY GOOD AND WILL LEAK AT TIMES AND IT DRIPS ONTO THE COIL AND RUINS IT. REPLACE THE HOSE CLAMP WITH NEW ONE (NOT FORD ONE). THERE MAY BE A TSB ON THAT FIX. YOU CAN LOOK.

How did you know you had a coil problem? My 5.4 just started having a serious stumble at around 1250 to 1400 rpm. Idle is fine, and anything above and below that range is smooth. But when I'm in park and slowly rev it into the 1250 to 1400 range, it's almost like it wants to stall. Any thought that this might be a coil problem? If not, any opinion on what the problem may be? Thanks...

the hose clamp isn't really the problem the problem is that ford did not tightend it enough and that is why they leak coolant. By the way they can cause intermittant missfire and the coolant can also cause #3 cop to fail as it coolant can run down across the pcv tube
