Question Inline 6 Exhaust Question

Does anybody know how a straight 6 sounds with a good high performance muffler? How about performance gains? Thanks.

I have a fairly stock setup on mine. I like to hear it howl at idle... But I have heard soem with some performance types.. I think it sounds good, but I LOVE real sixes. They will always sound better than bent sixes to me! With any exhaust upgrade there will be performance enhancements, it just may or may not be much.

At my work we had Flowmasters 40 Series installed on one of the 87 F150 w/ I6 motor. The sound at idle IMHO just slightly better than stock. Performance was very slightly increased. Not really worth the money unless you in need of replacing your exhaust system in the first place. Since getting a regular muffler will cost only 10-15 bucks less than the Flowmasters.

Thumbs down

I recently hade a 94 F150 with the I6 5sp. I had a local Exhaust shop install Duals with 2 1/2" Pipe no muffler and 3 1/2 stainless tips strait out the back sounded great on the outside but had a lot of resence in the cab and lost lots of that low end torque that the 4.9 I6's were known for. At that time it went back th the shop for a turbo muffler, same results. The 3rd time back to the shop I had a stock muffler with 2 outlets and the torque came back and the resonence was gone. After all this I had around $380 in a basically stock system with dual outlets. I know own a 97 f150 with the 4.6L V8 but wish they still had the I6 option in the new trucks. Hope this Helps!
