Cool

There is nothing wrong w/ vortech's ,they are the #1 rated reliable supercharger ,there kit quality is excellent .I have been installing and racing centrifical superchargers since 1992 .The vortech's (esc.the s-trim) are more than capable of keeping your foot in it for extended periods of time .We have run s-trims on our mustang 5.0's for years running 16 lbs of boost on the street and never once have I had a s-trim fail and we never ran intercoolers ,the car ran 10;80's @ 132mph and drove excellent on the street and never once failed us .I have used a paxton sn-92(junk)- bearings went 3 times in 1 year, also had a a-trim ,s-trim ,y-trim and have since switched to procharger ,my 86 mustang gt sports a procharger d-2 race kit
making in excess of 25 lbs boost ,engine is a svo r302-331 ci ,it's the cover car on super ford magazine may/2000 it's capable of running 8;70's and i still drive it on the street .Only recently I decided to intercool in I run a 6-core intercooler only because of the very high boost levels(in excess of 20+ lbs.)There is no need to worry about running a intercooler w/ a s-trim unless your going over 16 lbs of boost .
The s-trim is a very versitle blower anywhere from 5-18 lbs of boost at the simple change of a pulley ,I don't think you can say that for the magnacharger ,in a all out race the s-trim will kick your magnachargers butt The magnacharger is nowhere capable of what the s-trim boost levels are .You don't see any magnacharger's in the 5.0 or modular racing world of the mustangs .
I only switched to the procharger because the mondo uses such small pullies to make boost ie; 27 tooth for example and they tend to throw a lot of blower belts vs the procharger running 40 tooth pulley or bigger and never throwing a belt .
If your looking for low end torque and thats it go w/ the manifold type blower but if it's true power you want stay w/ the vortech or procharger ,intercooler is only a luxury at your boost level and not worth the money.
Watch the p1sc ,there have been complaints that the case is tending to leak ,Procharger may have fixed the problem by now .
I also have friend w/ a 1992 ford f-350 dually w/ a 460 and a vortech s-trim 9 psi, engine has mild cam and mild head work passes all emmisions. While towing a enclosed trailer to calif. w/ a race car his friend joked w/ him that he wasted his money on the blower ,he and another guy were useing turbo diesels in there ford duallies and towing to the same event .So as they came to a steep hill he finally decided to prove to his buddies what his 460 was capable of so part way up the hill towing at 40 mph he pulls up beside one of them and signals to race up the hill (both are towing similar enclosed trailers)my friends 460 w/ the vortech left the diesel in the dust pulling up the long hill. Those guys could not believe it pulled that hard ,so on the next hill the other guy w/ a custom burned chip did the same from 40 on and again the 460 over powered the turbo diesel and pulled way ahead of it .So at the next stop they all pulled over and those other guys were speechless .So again don't worry about heating up the intake charge the s-trim really does not run that hot at full boost ,our race blowers under full boost can get over 300+ degrees the s-trim will never see that

I agree with you on some of the points you have made here, however, you are referring to the Mustang. I am taking notes in reference to your experience.

One MAJOR thing you are overlooking here is intake manifold plenum and runner design. The stock Triton intake actually works AGAINST a pressurized intake charge by creating reverse pulses. This can be perceived as efficiency, as the guage might read 8-10 psi on a kit rated for 6 psi. Bear in mind, this may not apply to your 4.2L.

Careful planning is needed if you want to get the most for your money.

The competition is running 8 psi boost with a modified roots-type (screw). The Magnacharger is capable of producing more power at 5-6 psi boost because the pressure is not "bottled up" in the stock intake manifold. Add the smaller pulley and boost increases from there.

I am looking at an article in Sport Truck Magazine titled the "Sport Truck Challenge" where a *5.4L* F-150 running the V-1 "S" trim ran a best of 14.89 at 91.25 mph. He also has Gibson headers and a cat-back. Noted was the fact he is running 10 psi of boost! This truck is "dyno'd" at 330hp. Torque (N/A) This is 113 hp MORE than I have dyno'd at.

I would challenge him to a blast down the quarter with the only other mod being my homemade intake duct. This is with the 4.6L, a 3.08 gear, stock exhaust manifolds and exhaust (which will be next to go) and a chip. I am only running 5-6 psi of boost.

*If* I lose, I will buy a smaller pulley and pull the exhaust to make up for the "disadvantage" of having an extra liter and an extra 4 psi of boost. Then we will run again.

I can assure you, my exhaust is restrictive. I can hear it. After that goes, I'll do the MAF and throttle body, and then go with a smaller pulley (after the warranty expires).

Until then, I am happy sticking to the tail of every stock Mustang I see. I have alot of fun. Again, it's no Lightning, but it IS pretty quick.

Cool

crash 1,

I also have the MagnaCharger and is it awesome, but what we don't see enough of on these posts is talk about the great tech. support you get from Magnacharger. I don't know how good the support is from any of the other distributors, but I am curious.

I thought I read somewhere that you purchased a superchip, if so how do you like it? I have one that Chris burned for me and WOW what a difference. Your name has come up during our conversations (all good) and I was curious of the differences between the chip for the auto which I have and your 5 speed. I don't have a lot of time to search these posts, so please email me if you have time.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I too have the Magnacharger custom code.

I have heard two different things. One is they just delete the transmission coding. Two, timing IS adjusted for optimal power when shifting.

Mike Troyer is the man to ask.

BTW- I love the blower, and the chip is a BIG plus!

Chris has provided EXCELLENT tech support as well as EXCELLENT customer service. His experience is also invaluable when it comes to additional mods.

He has provided guidance, and has been open to suggestions on improving his kits. He really is a great guy to work with. He really knows his stuff!

It looks like there may be a few here who are looking into getting blown. We can all come out better if I order them all at once. Let me know guys, and we can do a group purchase!
