Top Three Mods
Ok guys an gals, it seems everyone is in agreement that the best 3 engine mods are the chip, airbox mods, and exhaust.
The exhaust: I went with true duals, using high flow cats, "X" pipe, 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe with magnaflows exiting right rear in front of the wheel with twin 3 inch stainless slash cut tips. Sounds great. Slight drone tho, but I like it.
The Airbox: Aparently, this is a big issue. Hot air, cold air, more air, less air. This one has me confused. I have looked at airraid, FIPK, and have performed the cheap airbox mods from this list. The cheap mods just dont seem to work for me. I still dont have a clue what a WMS Velocity tube is or where to get one. Hopefully someone will come through with some good info on them before I buy.
Chip: Hands down the choice seems to be superchip. It will be my last buy for the top 3. Everyone on this sight seems to highly recommend it, and that puts it on my list.
Any and all info on the airbox info is greatly appreciated.

That's Western Motorsports site. They sell the Velocity Tube. Basically it's a mandrel bent 3 1/2" powder coated tube with all the necessary fittings for all the hoses and sensors. If fits between the MAF and the TB.

THIS IS WAY TO WIERD!!
Western Motor Sports is located in Calgary, Alberta(Canada)....I just live 10 minutes away from them.
I was just in the their store last week picking up the Velocity tube (#WMS-VEl97F) they have designed and less than 1/2 the price of an Airaid/K&N.....They make very nice stuff I must say!
I also ordered the Bassani "Quiet Thunder Catback" exhaust from them (#BAS-465435)...also very very nice stuff, they are experts on Ford's and it show's!!
Next and final mod will be a chip....just going through the correct steps!!!
The above mods are being done to my 4x4 Supercrew!

OK, After lookin all day and reading replys for a month now, I still cant make up my mind. None of them have the colder air option. Volant says they are working on a cold air induction package tho.
In order of performance benefits I see it as K&N then Airraid, then AirForceOne. My best price so far is for the Airraid with the intake spacer that swirls the induction charge for 300 delivered. Or 229 for the volant with the possibility of fresh air in the future.
FWIW I modofied my stock airbox beyond repairs, and the ford dealer wants 269 for a new one. The main advantage of the WMS is that you still get to use your stock air box......
I hate when that happens.....

Wow, I didn't think the airbox would be that much! I went with the WMS because I wanted to avoid hacking up the original stuff. I'm glad I did, and didn't start cutting. That's a lot of cash for an injection molded piece of plastic.
Does that price include the MAF, or is that extra?

I did the same thing and cut the fender side of my airbox. Got the same price from Ford. I went to a local truck junk yard( Hansen's Truck Salvage) and purchased a new piece for $11. Far cry from Ford's price.

Red97, $11 bucks....nice. I have searched for a week now, and cant seem to locate a 97 and up ford truck in the junkyards here. If anyone has their old bucket I would be surely interested in buying it. If I can find another bucket, then I would try the WMS tube. Does anyone that has one of these know if you can hear the induction noise better? I like the growl.. ;-}~~

If someone does, can anyone provide us with some feedback ??
I just purchased one but have not installed it yet...can't wait!!

Yes I have a WMS Tube. I previosly had an AiRaid installed but after reading all the posts decied to dry the WMS cool air approach. Frankly, I noticed no difference between the two. The WMS, while taking in cold air, seems to be more restrictive than the AiRaid or K&N. The AiRaid had much better fit and finnish. I was disapointed with the interior finnish on the WMS Tube. However, I think the consept is better to breath cool air, it is also cleaner by nature of the design.
I've got the WMS. I installed it a week before the exhaust. I noticed better accelleration, and more sound than stock. The only place there is any restrictions per se is that it uses the replacement K&N that is the same size as the stock filter instead of the longer filter used in the open elements.
I too like the idea of pulling the cooler air from the fender. There's been a lot of discussion on the pros/cons of this and the others. My opinion is that they all make about the same power increases, just go about it in different ways. I think the best solution would be the WMS pipe with a new "bucket" that would fit around the longer K&N and mount to the fender opening. Oh for an injection mold system

GUYS!
Guess what...I canceled the Bassani system today and ordered the Gibson Sweptside catback system.
I think I have finally resolved my exhaust delema....GIBSON, torque and mid range is what I want and us much less than the Bassani.
Still not convinced that K&N is the way to go though!

Thanks for all the input guys...any additional feedback would still be muchly appreciated!

Question!
Just installed my WMS cold air velocity tube last night and was curious about a few things.
Does the computer have to be reset after installation of the velocity tube?
Where will I notice a difference in performance? I took it for a drive last night afterwards and it seemed a bit more responsive in the bottom end, maybe even a bit more noise (like flipping your dads aircleaner when you were a kid).
This is the only mod I have done to the truck and maybe expecting a bit to much.
Should I notice a big difference and where should a person look?
Any comments would really be appreciated!

I can't wait til my chip gets here on Mon.
I love the K/N kit,the old 60's muscle car
sound is incredible. This combined with
the glasspack duals makes quite a seat
of the pants improvement. Anybody know
how to change the color of those(orange!?) connecting hoses,,yuck.
Soon I will fabricate an airbox to isolate
the filter from the engine air. I am also thinking of venting the hood with some old 280ZX hood vents, it should look great
and lower the temps a little.:-)

2001,
Everybody says to reset the computer after every mod. I didn't go through the whole overnight/lights on routine. I just disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes. I felt about the same as you have with the change. Noticeable, but not neck-snapping performance gains with the intake alone. Once you get your Sweptside installed, you should definitely tell the difference.
Have fun!
