Question Why don't we sound as good as the Mustangs?

I just went to Mustang World's website and was listening to the exhaust sounds. They sound great!!! Even stock, with the silencer pulled, and a K&N added. I know the Mustangs are geared toward performance, but shouldn't the Triton 4.6L be able to produce the same astonishing sounds? Maybe this should be in the exhaust section, but it seems dead lately. I had a FM 40 installed, and it sounds stock at idle, and at highway speeds. You can only hear it through 3rd. at take off, if you shift at 3500 RPM or higher. What gives? Please, check my sig.

BTW, I don't want to sound like a car...but I DO want to be able to hear the raw power.

I do believe the intake, heads, exhaust headers, and a few other things are different on the Mustangs, not to mention
a completely different exhaust. Mine sounds great with true duals and glasspacks. I haven't bought any headers
yet though I plan to. Mine sounds like glasspacks, but sometimes it has kind of
a ringing sound like flowmasters. All in all I'm happy with the sounds my truck is making. I know I'm a minority in liking the sound of packs but I love'em,,,,,,,,98

Well, actually it sounded pretty damned good to me tonight, outside the truck. I think it's because of the size of my tip. I do, in fact, have the FM 40 (non-Delta Flow.) I just miss the drone that my V6 had I guess. (It had 16" X 3" tips.) The K&N fit perfect...same size as my 99 4.2L in fact. (I think.) Check this section of the forum for "The Ultimate Airbox Mod." thread.

I got passed by a Saleen Mustang today, and it sure did sound good. The driver wasn't even getting on it, just moderate acceleration from a light and it sounded real tough, deep tone with an edge is the only way I could describe it.

The biggest reason is the cam. When Ford introduced the 4.6 in the mustang, they spent a lot of time on the cam grind. They wanted it to sound different from the crownvics and other cars that use the same engine. Wanted more of the thump thump sound. Also true dual exhaust makes a difference.

Thumbs up

I have a Dynomax superturbo exhaust. It made a noticeable diffrence when I added an echo tube. Try that it helped me.

Well....... I will try. An echo tube is like a tip but it is enlarged and installed toward the end of your tail pipe..........Mine I think is about 14 inches long and 3.5 inches in diameter which allows the sound to "echo". I got mine at at Meinike mufflers (not sure of spelling) and about 20 Bucks.

Cool, thanks. You wouldn't believe the difference those make. I had a 99 4.2L with CarX 18" X 3" tips, and it sounded great. Then they rusted so I took it to Meinike and had 16" X 3" tips added, and it sounded completely different. Especialy at first, because they just tacked them on, and didn't weld them all the way around. You couldn't tell I even had an exhaust till they fixed it. Thanks.

Question

Wait, do you mean it's not a tip? So it goes inline with the pipe, but comes before the tip? If so, have you heard it before, and after? Is it chrome or do they offer it in stainless? Thanks again, sorry for all the questions.
