Tri (3) Ton (2000lbs) = 3 tons or 6000 lbs is the equvilent horspower to displacement ratio which yields the engine's torque rating at 2500RPM for the respective engines (4.6L or 5.4L.

OK so it sounds like one of those response you get when you ask: "what does the '33' mean on the back of a Rolling Rock Bottle?"

The name Z28 came from the options package # you checked when you ordered one.

Rand:
I bet the name Triton was probably debated for a year with polls finding out peoples *feelings* toward the name, costing Ford millions

BTW, Cobra R is for race. 95's even required a racing license to buy. Z06 vette is from the code of an older package of the same name.

A 5.4 also has a taller deck, not just a longer stroke.

I think the truck motors(vs car 4.6's) usually have a cam setup towards low end and torque, slightly less compression (not sure about this), and less agressive timing to account for crappy fuel most trucks get. I would think the Navigator engines would be an exception to this.

Cool

The "33" on the Rolling Rock bottle is there as a commemoration of the end of prohibition.
