1997, F-150, 4.6L--At stops signs with some type of air on, it will run rough intermittently. If I put the car in neutral she will idle fine?

I recently had a tune up done and fuel filter replaced. This did not cure the problem!

I have a '97 4.2 and experienced the same problem. If you look back through some of the old posts, you will see the same question asked numerous times.

There were many different diagnosis/ solutions offered but I can only tell you what worked for me. I changed the fuel filter, ran a bottle of injector cleaner (Chevron Techron) in a fresh tank of gas and I also switched brands of fuel. I had always ran Exxon fuel in my truck and switched to Mobil and the problem disappeared.

Its possible that if you have high miles you may have carbon build on your injectors. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the reply. In my post I forgot to mention during my tuneup I had the injectors cleaned and also put the same Cheveron cleaner too in the tank. I think I may try changing out the idle control valve.
