high idle at start
high idle at start
Might sound crazy but for a while now my 99 5.4 li will idle at 1300 to 1500 rpm when you start the engine. It doesnt have to be cold or the truck parked for a long period of time for this to happen. After about a minute or two it will idle back down.

I dont know if your truck does that everytime you start it up, but i do know that all trucks to that, till either you kick them down, or they do it by themselves. It just help getting the fluids going in the motor, and it warms up faster. If you dont want to sit there, try tapping the gas real quick, and see if that gets rid of it.
FireRig99,
that sounds really wierd to me. i would understand if it was in cold weather or something (mine does it sometimes in the morning when it is could during the night)
but for it to do it on a regular basis that does not depend on circumstances. i would get that checked out. even if the dealer does not fix anything or says there is nothing wrong. make sure that they WRITE IT DOWN that you had this complaint. that way if something brakes and you are under warranty you can say "told ya so". just my .02
good luck,
Arom

Hey man, its me again. Uhm, i just thought youd like to know that its common in Fords to idle high upon start up. Chevys dont, i dont know why, they just dont. My cousin has a 94 Ford, it does it, and my dad has a 98 Ford, and it does it. So no worries alright, its common.
High idle at startup is normal. It's been that way with Fords for years. No, you can't kick it down like you could when engines had a carb and a choke.
Unless it's very cold, I don't think it's normal for the engine to high idle for 2 minutes. That sounds excessive. It should high idle for a brief amount of time, then slow down to an intermediate idle, then eventually slow to a normal idle once the engine is warmed up.
