Post Dealer Questions Pulley

Brought the truck in today to get the engine looked at. I was complaining of a vibration found in all gears, starting at idle (btwn 2000 and 2500 rpm). Still have the truck, but say they can't find the problem. Last heard someone was going to look at the pulley.

Anyone have/had a similar problem? its a 99sc with the 4.6. Has 55k miles and am told warrenty won't cover fixing it (whatever "it" ends up being).

Side note: dealer is Gene Evans in Union City GA, south of Atlanta. Thus far, they promised a rental car, but didn't tell me I have to pay for it. AND they want me to fork over $70 for the engine check-up. Whatever happened to customer service?

I would try another dealership and see if you get a better answer/service. After being treated like a 3rd class citizen one to many times by my local dealer, FREEWAY FORD, Columbus Georgia. I don't even walk on their lot anymore. Not all dealerships are created the same.

Which pulley? Is it one you installed?
If it is original equipment why not covered under warranty?

Update: Engine mechanics confirmed vibration, but can't find the problem and are revoking the $70 fee. If a Ford certified dealer can't figure out what's wrong, what does that mean? At least they didn't charge me that fee.

Dustoff: I went to the dealership this morning to clarify the "pulley" assumption. While I was there, my sales rep was servicing another guy. This guy was having problems with his explorer, had it in like 3 times in the past 3 month. The rep couldn't even remember promising the guy a rental car.

T Ellenberger: I have not made any modifications to the truck b/c its a lease. I am assuming since I have 55k miles on it, by surpassing the 36K mile mark I have forgone coverage of that part of the truck. The sales rep specifically told me the warrenty has expired.

Hi Clear,

The vibration can't be good, and you should probably go to another dealer and have it properly diagnosed.

Of course none of this is going to be free, as your warranty is obviously expired, so you can expect to have to pay for any services, whether they be diagnostic in nature, or anything else, that's perfectly normal with any product that is out of warranty. Nobody can put food on the table by working free of charge, and I'm sure no one here works at their job without being paid for it.

The fact that this dealer agreed to rescind the SBDS diagnostic fee says a lot for their integrity in my opinion, that is something that few dealers would have done.

Good luck, and if you find out what is causing this, please do let us know here!

Superchips_Distributor: I guess I am a bit harsh due to past experiences with the late model f-150, but am greatful they did rescind.

Will try another dealership this weekend. The mechanic pulled up a list of TSB's, and claims that it most likely is not internal. That's a relief to me as I am most likely to avoid some serious costs. He did mention replacing the motor mounts (came up on one of the TSB's). If this turns out to be the problem, which I tend to think it is, is this expensive?
