Must be the speed limiter, mine kicks in at 99mph. It protects me from overheating my Firestone Wilderness ATs.

It happened to me as well. I'm not sure what MPH it happened but it was around 90+. It feels like a speed limiter kicking in a rev limiter. I also noticed that when I pull my 5X8 enclosed trailer and I really kick it in the a** it does something similar.

My 99 150 had, and my Y2K SD SC V-10 4x4 has a speed limiter. Ford puts them on the trucks to keep the speeds down, which in turn keeps the tires from becoming unsafe at these speeds. The tires cannot handle the stress from the speed, plus the weight of these trucks. My limiters kicked in around 95 MPH in both trucks. Besides, 95 MPH in a 6500# + truck is plenty fast. The Superchip removes the limiter, but I do not own one.

My friend has a 2000 f-150 with a 5.4 and it shuts off around 105mph.

We've had our 99 w/ 4.6L for almost (2) years now. A couple weeks ago, on the way to our weekend hide a way, I opened it up for the first time. At a little over 100, the speed limiter still did not cut in. This confused me. I was under the impression that it would kick in around 100. Any other similar owners, that speed limiter not kicking in?
