My buddy gave me a chip flashed for his '94 Lightning when he got rid of it. I own a '93 F150 351W HO with a pretty aggressively ground Comp cam, overbored .30, tri-angle valve job, power pulleys, and Gibson exhaust. I don't know much about computer chips and am wondering if putting his chip in mine will work or not. Is the Lightning's 351 similar enough to just use that chip?

 

Nope, it will NOT work. First of all if his truck was stock yours will take different tuning. Second of all Superchips are "Flashed" to a specific catch code on the PCM. If the catch codes are different(and I'm almost positive they would be) it will not work. With all of the mods you mention you would really need a custon program. You could have his chip reflashed to your vehicle if you could find a modem dealer willing to do it.

I just realized you were not specific as to what namebrand of chip you have. If it is not a Superchip disreguard what I said.
