Cleaning Idle Air Control

I have been experiencing the cold hard starting problem with my 97 F150 4.6L. After researching the archieves, it seems as though I need to either replace or clean the IAC motor/valve. I have called around for a new part and most of my parts stores can't even order the part so I am stuck with going through the dealer at $62+!

So what is the process for cleaning the IAC? Can I use any carborator type cleaner? How long to let it soak with cleaner? Do I need to do anything else?

Thanks,
Rob

I'd replace it and consider it $62 well spent.

I'm in a similar boat and it will likey be replaced soon at their $$. In Cali, all emission control parts must be warrantied for 50K, so I don't know what your situation is but it's work a check out...
