Question Engine flush

I am going to switch to synthetic oil this weekend and was wondering if there is a good engine flush on the market that I can get at a discount / auto parts store. I hear the Amsoil stuff is good, are there any others like NAPA or Advance auto? Also I assume that the bottle will have directions on how to use it but should I spin on a new filter before I flush? I currently have 13,000 on my new engine and figured to be safe I should flush the engine. Although I usually change my dino oil every 2000 miles. Thanks.

Bob, I flush every time I change the oil. I use Solder Seal Gunk 5 Minute Flush. Costs about $3.00 a can. Pour it in and run the engine for 5 to 10 minutes; drain the oil and change the filter. I've used this stuff for years and had good luck with it. I change oil and filter every 3000 miles. Use Synthetic in my NASCAR Edition F150, and Dino oil in my SS10 Blazer and AWD Subaru. Had to replace a head gasket on the S10 at about 75,000. The mechanic asked me if I flushed the engine. Told him what I did and he said to keep it up. Said it was the cleanest internal engine he'd worked on in a long time. Also, I've used engine flush in my engines from the begining; initial change at 500 mile with a flush to remove and metal partical and then every 3000 miles thereafter. Good luck

Bob'sF150,

I usually recommend after 20,000 miles,
But it can't hurt either way.

Synthetics have a naturaly detergency and will clean your engine as you go. Also you should have any buildup after you switch, since synthetics don't contain varnish and sludge. You can have some oxidation, but that is very very minute since syntehtics are highly resistant to oxidation.
