Exclamation dangerously high idle...sometimes

Please, can ANYBODY help me??!!
My '99 F150 is intermittantly idling at 2500rpm. in gear or not, with no throttle input. Ive taken it to the shop under warrenty 3 times over the last year for this problem, but no one can ID the problem (reliably). This problem is dragging me into intersections and curves WAY too fast and I'm seriously freaked out about it. My dealer/mechanic seems to be lost, so I want to ask other owners.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

I love my truck and I don't want to kill it (or my family...). ANY assistance would be welcome...

tell your ford dealership to check oasis there are a couple tsb on older modles for a binding throttle cable, and a updated pcv coduit tubing and a new iac. I know your is a 99, but it would be a good idea to have your iac replaced and the cable checked for binding ( cable tsb concern occurs more in cooler climates )

This is similar to what black f150 offroad
was talking about.

I just wanted to add some more information for you, the codiut tubbing was to prevent pcv icing wich could cause the throttle body to stick, personally i have worke on rangers and a 00 mustang 3.8 wich would intermitantly have a fast idle, you would be driving along and sudenly the idle would jump to the area of 1500 rpm, i replaced the iac and the problem was resolved, the tech who works on your truck should also use wds - datta logger and monior the tps pids, as a fluctating tp sensor can also cause a high idle, plus it is always a good idea to check the basics, i have seen floor mats sliding and causing problems as well.

My wife had a 92 Taurus that did the same thing. The Dealer did an idle stratagy what ever that is and it was fixed for about a year then came back. We ended up trading it off.It also took them several times before they found a temporary fix.

WOO-HOO!!!

Thanks to all involved for actually answering (I posted the question on Edmunds Townhall and all I got was some comedian suggesting that I either torch my truck or send for a priest to exorcise it...).

Dustoff: Thanx, but I already knew about the recall safety bulletin. Brought a copy to mechanic last time I took it in. He said he checked it, but I'm not convinced... (oh yes, since I last looked, the recall has been updated to include '99s in the same build period mine is...maybe I'll have them look into it again.)

B-F150-OR: In english please? My acronym translater is on the fritz... However, I want you to know that I'm taking a copy of your posts to the mechanic along with the truck. I don't know as much as I'd like, but I do know when to listen to those that know more than me. (and I pride myself on a functioning bull****-o-meter...)

Thanx to all who posted, Ill keep you posted & if you think of anything else, you know where I'll be...

check my response to thread "2000 RPM in neutral" this may be your answer. It is exactly what my ranger was doing. Also same as "black f150 offroad" said above.

Thumbs up

Who says surfing is a waste of time (other than the boss)?

Thanx to everyones input, I'm beginning to see a pattern emerging here. Deductive reasoning would suggest that the IAS is a very logical place to start. (even if I couldn't find it myself...grrr...)

Trucks going in tonight to be worked on tomorrow (shop still thinks I live 130 miles away like when I bought the truck...who am I to disabuse them if it means they will get on it NOW)so I'll keep one and all posted.

thanx folks!!!
