Heat Sensor Problem?
When it gets hot out, my 1995 F150 4.9L I6 has overheating problems. And I'm not talking serious heat but even in the mid 80s. I'm thinking there is a problem with the temperature sensor giving false signals. Should I take a look at the coolant temp gauge or something different? I'll just be driving down the road, and it will overheat and shut off. If I let it sit for a minute, I can usually get it to go a couple blocks and then it dies again. And I really have to gas it to get it going. When I get to an intersection it will die again. It seems to be less of a problem in higher gears but there is definitely power loss. The only solution is turning it off for an hour or hosing the engine down. Any comments would be greatly appreciated as it always happens when I'm with my girlfriend and she's getting annoyed

Just for the hell of it, have you tried pulling the thermostat out to see what happens??
Sounds like a symptom from the pre-electronic days of a thermostat sticking closed.
OR!! it may be the fan clutch not engageing. but I would check the thermostat first beings it's only a $4 part with the gasket.

We just swapped out the coolant temperature sending unit for $7. Hopefully this will do the trick. *crosses fingers*
