Question Timing?

Hello all. I have a 1985 F-150 with the 300 CI 6 cyc. According to my manual for setting the timing it says to disconnect a black wire near the distributer. I don't see one. Also someone told me there are no wires or hoses to disconnect, just set the timing with the engine idleing. So how do you set the timing? Thanks, and I appologize if this subject was asked before. Greg.

Is it EFI?

I am not sure about a 1985, but it SHOULD have EEC IV. If this is the case, there is a shunt (gray 2-pin connector) in series in the SPOUT (spark out) wire. This needs to be removed when setting base timing. Replace it when you are done.

Again, I am not sure about an '85 without looking at a schematic.
