Question Taking the slack outta the "go pedal"? ; )

Should this be done? I crawled under the dash this weekend and "manually" topped-out the accelerator pedal to see how much "slack" their was in the throttle cable. I found that I had about 1/2" of "access". Would it be a good idea to some how take up some of this slack? I heard that the Mustang guys were doing this. Would it make any difference? Would the modified pedal not contact the floor when you, "floored it"? Sounds like this could be another "cool" mod. What do you think? Who wants to go first? I guess we first need to know if that slack really is a waste of valuable cable that could get us, truely, "wide open."

Jackal,

I did this on my Bronco. It doesn't make WFO any more than it is now because the butterfly in the throttle body will only open so far. I did it because when depressing the pedal, if I slid my foot off the pedal and it snapped back up real fast, the cable wanted to jump off the pedal assembly. All I did was put two zip ties on the cable between the pedal assembly and the steel ball on the cable end. Took up all that extra slack, problem solved.

Cool

Mine had some slack (about 1/4"). With the pedal floored the throttle was about 1/4" from opening fully also. There are many ways to space the cable. I cut a slit down 2)small brass nuts and crimped them over the cable at the pedal. It has just enough slack and opens the throttle fully.

I took the slack out about 6 months ago.
I tood a bolt, nut, and a couple of washers and put them around the cable. Now no slack. When I touch the pedal I get instant response. Actually took a few starts to get used to the change.

I never did check to see if the throttle was opening up all the way before the change but I just did not like that lag in the pedal response.

Question

Is there any way too adjust the downshift
on a 98 150 ? Mine downshifts and screams like it's at WOT. This happens
just over 1/2 throttle and it's a little embarrassing in traffic. It makes me sound like a pedal heavy goober, when all
I intended was a little more go. It seems
to happen without warning. I've owned 25
vehicles in the last 12 or so years and every one had to have the pedal all the way to the floor to downshift. where's the
adjustment? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,98

Wink

Sounds like you need a Superchip.
