Post Airaid...Wow!!

Count me in as another happy camper sporting an Airaid FIPK on his 4.6. Seat-of-the-pants is about all I have to go by, and it says there's a noticable difference. Haven't had it long enough to see if it improves MPG, but it's improved driving enjoyment big time!

And it returned a sound to the V8 I haven't heard since my teen days of big blocks and four barrel Holley carbs....VWWOMMMPHH!!! I think my MPG's gonna suck for a while until I get over wanting to hear that! (does anyone ever get over that?)

In fact, my wife was driving the truck the other day, before I got the FIPK, and she wondered alound where that sound was (she thinks it's pretty cool, too). She'll find out soon that it's back!

Anyway, put me down as a satisfied Airaid user. It was a breeze to install, just a tad over the thirty minute advertised time. And it sure looks smart under the hood.

Next...Flowmaster.

I like that sound myself. Wait until you add the Superchip and the exhaust. The three seem to compliment each other. Makes a good package.
There are times I roll down the window and hit the gas just to hear the sound.

Question

What exactly is a AIRRAID. I'm new to the mod's game.

JJHarris,

An Airaid FIPK (Filter Injection Performance Kit) is a completely different air intake system from the one that comes stock on your truck. The stock intake is restrictive; the Airaid, as well as a K&N or Stillen intake, breath considerably more freely, all use a K&N filter cone at the tip.

I'm rather new at the mods game myself, and am quite pleased that the first performance mod I've done has yielded positive results. The Flowmaster may come as early as Saturday, and someday if I ever go Superchipped...well, I might have to find some deserted farm road around here to enjoy the trio mod's full glory. Traffic around these parts is sardines-ville.

I'm mainly after a comfy, strong daily driver with good looks, as I don't plan to take a Supercab to a track and vie for the best quarter mile times. I'd get a Lightning if I was of that mind (and Superchip it)! Just can't justify the hp and insurance to the wife.

Many guys here have gone for a shadetree airbox mod...that didn't appeal to me because it involved cutting up the factory box. I went to the online store on this web site, saw pics of both the K&N and Airaid FIPK's, and chose the Airaid mainly because it looks so darn cool, and delivers equivalent performance to the K&N, if I'm not mistaken. The Airaid isn't CARB certified, so that might be an issue if you live in a smog regulated zone. I don't, but they might lower the hammer down soon, so I have the factory box on standby for inspection time.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I hope it helps!

Crazy C,

Did you have problems with "check engine" light coming on after you installed the Airaid? I just installed mine but after the second start up my C.E. light comes on. I cleaned the MAF sensor 3 times and rest computer each time. But it never fails the second time I start up the light comes on.

Crazy C-

It has been a while! How are ya man?

Drop me a line anytime, I'd love to hear from you. I am glad you are happy with your truck and the mods, and if the wife is happy, so much better!

Do any of you have any pics to send me for my photo album? Cameron?

IslandBoy, make sure all your connections are secure and the hose connections are tight. If they are, make sure the terminals are secure in the MAF harness connector.

Crash,

I have checked everything over and over again. Basically I took the whole thing off and put it back on a few times now. Everything works fine on the first start up. I'm getting tired of disconnecting the battery everytime.
