Check your heater hoses. In my opinion, what you are smelling is probably your hoses gettign weak, and then evaporating from the heat of the engine, and you aren't losing enough to tell that you are losing antifreeze. Also, may be related to the water pump, if it leaks at all, it could cause the antifreeze to heat up, and you would smell the evaporation of it, too. Maybe even a thermostat. Just some ideas, I am by no means an expert on this. Anyone else wanna take a stab?

I too had an antifreeze smell in my truck last year. I looked all over until I found a small amount of coolant in the valley of the engine. It turned out to be intake manifold gaskets. They were replaced at the dealer, cost around 300.00 dollars. No leaks since. I have a 97 4.6.
