Unhappy How do I know...

..when it's time to change the tranny fluid? I don't trust taking it to the dealer, because I'm sure they will say, yea, it's needs a new tranny or some crap like that. My truck has 40K miles, so what do I look for?

Thanks for your help!
Chris

It's time to change it. Very simple to do yourself.

***You should also have your doctor adjust the medication dosage because you're still a little paranoid and this is no way to go through life***

AjRagno,

I don't get your little message at the end... is that a shot at me or a message in your profile?

Thumbs up That's just for you, Chris. Psychiatric treatment can be a wonderful thing.

I am quite serious too.

In life, you'll find that you receive whatever you expect.
Dealer service is no exception.

Talking Psych 101

C'mon bro...Don't turn this in to a mud slinging fight... I do have some background for my opinion, though. I brought my last truck into the local ford dealer, with a clear head, to have them diagnose a tranny "clunk" that was occuring. So 2 weeks later, I walked out, having just paid to have a new tranny installed...but the clunk it still there. So I went to another dealer for a second opinion...turns out my e-brake was hanging, and that would make the "clunk" when I started moving. They replaced a 20 dollar part and fixed it for good. Meanwhile, I'm out 2K for a freakin tranny that didn't need to be replaced. After numerous fights with the dealer, the rep, the BBB, etc. I gave up...they were not going to admit their guilt, and it wasn't worth it to me to persue it any further. So there you have it...as far as your psychiatric reccomendation, thanks anyways, I happen to be a psych major, so I wouldn't classify this as "conditioning" but rather as a case of predictable idealism, where I have had a very negative relationship with a dealer, so naturally I am going to be protective, and harbor negative thoughts about ALL dealers. I don't think that is a problem, just human nature....anyways, seriously, thanks for your opinion on the tranny fluid change.

Chris

Sorry AjRagno, but I have to agree with FordMX. I have dealt with all five of the Ford dealers that are within a ten mile radius of my home. None of them seem to care about customer satisfaction one iota. The particular dealer that I bought my truck from has a propensity for leaving scratches on the body panels and claims ignorance when it comes to TSBs. Overall, I have not yet had one positive experience with any Ford dealership.

While I do not consider myself to be a cynical or pessimistic person, I have come to expect the worse from Ford dealers based on real life experiences. Afterall, I was expecting great service that is worthy of a great truck!

I have always owned Ford pickup trucks. I've had a 1964 F100, 1969 Ranger, 1971 F100 and presently a 1997 F150. With my previous trucks I seldom dealt with dealers because I did all my own wrenching and got parts from either a junkyard, NAPA, or the rare visit to the Ford parts counter. I've come to the point in my life that I felt a new truck was in order. I am very happy with the truck I chose to buy but quite dissatisfied with the service I have recieved since. I will continue to do my own wrenching because of the exemplary incompetence that I've come to expect from Ford dealerships.

Dont feel too bad FordMX, if you do need a headshrinking it's not because of your attitude. It's probably for waiting untill 40K miles to servise your tranny, LOL!!

Well that's my $.02, I'll step off the soap box now. Good day gentlemen.
