Question Engine coolant

Anyone change their coolant? At what mileage or years after ownership did you change it at?? I was thinking of doing mine but it seems to test fine but with aluminum heads and radiator I think it should be changed a bit more often then with cast iron heads.

Do what the manual says!

RULE OF THUMB: 2 years or 24K.

FYI: If you do it yourself, make sure you get ALL the air out of the system. These new engines have been known to get air trapped in the head around a piston and cook one side of a piston! In other words, use a presurized flush system!

I actually drain and fill mine every other year and flush it the next.

Just spent 5 minutes skimming over my '99 Scheduled Maintenance Guide. The first time I noticed anything about changing the green coolant was at 105,000 miles. This just can't be. I must have missed at least one other earlier change, but for the life of me, I can't find it.

My local dealer's electronic maintenance email schedule recently told me to come in for my 15,000 mile service which included a flush of the antifreeze !!!

They gotta be kidding!!!

We hardly changed it at 15,000 back when alchohol was used for antifreeze!

Check out http://www.net-link.net/~n8jg/F-150/2000%20F-150%20Owner's%20Manual.pdf for the owner's manual -- which does not include the antifreeze maintenance replacement schedule.

Hey Y2K....
Your showing your age, I remember those
alchohol days. :-)

Anyhow does the 300 I6 need pressurized flushing too?? or will the good ol drain and fill method I've used for years work.

Hey, Jimbello:

I heard it from that fat old man I see in the bathroom mirror every morning.

You can't beat the old shop-vac exhaust air into the upper radiator hose flush technique.
