Oil for F150 Supercrew 2001
I own a 2001 F150 Supercrew. The oil recommended for this truck is 5W-30 (its on a sticker under the hood as well as in the manual.
Now I live where the Ambient temperature never gets below 80 F.
Isn't 5W-30 too low for that environment. I need to change my oil and filter now and I wanted to use Castrol Heavy Duty SAE 40.
Any thoughts...

Welcome crance- I would use the recommended oil grade and specifications/ratings during the warranty period. If not changed by Ford, keep records/receipts. Use a filter with an anti-drainback valve. Oil and filter questions have been discussed heavily here, and there is some great information that you can search from previous threads.

Crance,
I have a Supercrew as well. Max is right, you should use the 5w30. I put in Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30. I just believe that my crew only gets the best. Lots of posts on oil so I won't start. Only my 2 cts. How about a pic of the Crew?

Crance, let me put it this way. If you want to hear your engine clatter and rattle every morning when you start it, use the 40W oil. If you want to void your engine warranty, use the 40W oil. If you want your engine to wear out faster everytime you cold start it, use the 40W oil. If you want to waste money on fuel, use the 40W oil.
If, on the other hand, you want the best for your engine, stick with the 5W-30 that Ford tells you to use. Our engines are OHV and very tight. If the oil is thick, as you are thinking of changing to, it will not get to the wear points as quickly as the 5W-30 will. If the oil can't get there quickly, the parts wear out faster.
These engines aren't cheap, so most of us will follow the specs and schedules that are in the owner manuals to keep our warranties in effect.
BTW, use the Motorcraft oil filter that's spec'd for your truck. It's not all that expensive and has the proper silicone anti-drainback valve. Lesser brands don't have an effective valve and it allows the oil to drain back down. The Motorcraft filter prevents this drainback and wear from oil starved parts at startup is minimized.
If you run a search on "oil," you'll find a ton of discussion in the Engines section.

Thanks to all you guys...
Here is one more bit of info for everyone...
5W30 is NOT available in Jamaica..There has never been a demand for it and the FORD dealer does not carry it.. I guess i better ask what they use and what FORD tells them to use here in Jamaica.
I can get 20W50 regular and synthetic...
The Fuel Filter I have is K&N with an anti drain back valve..

Didn't realize you were in Jamaica. In your case, I'd check with the dealer and use what they say so long as they give you something in writing that it would not void your warranty and will not harm your engine. Since 20W-30 Synthetic is available, I'd use that since synthetics seem to flow like lighter weight oils anyway. Again, check with your dealer on this.
Definitely, stay away from the 40W oil!

Crance, even down here in South Texas, where it's 102 degrees today, we run 5w30. So I don't think your local Ford dealer has a good excuse for not doing what the factory recommends...
