Hey..go for it buddy..it's your truck!

Maybe you should call FORD and tell them they are wrong and to change their owners manual for the F-150 immediately...I am sure they would love to hear from you! While you are at it...see if Prestone will replace your engine and cooling system, rental car fees, etc if you use the wrong stuff against what the manufacturer specifies you are to use.

"Prestone makes it fairly clear that Dex-Cool is compatible with ALL anti-freezes"..then I guess you know something that FORD/TOYOTA/SATURN/GM/MAZDA/CHEVY/DODGE..etc.. does not...because this is not what they are printing in their owners manuals!

Again..use what you want...urine will work for a short while until it boils off.

Post your results in a few years...and have a wonderful life!

**By the way... Check out the ingredients of the 5/150 vs Prestone and 5/100 Zerex (Prestone/Zerex are virtually identical)...the 5/150 extended life coolant has a major component which is NOT found in the yellow/green coolants. It also has the Orange dye added to make it even more obvious. It clearly states on the back that it does meet the FORD WSS-M97B44-D requirement, however, this is NOT for the F-150 per current FORD documentation (we need ESE-M97B44-A (hood sticker) or WSS-M97B51-A1 - owners manual..try reading it sometime). It can't get any easier to understand than that kilroy.

Read Prestone's statements, knucklehead. You can read, can't you? I have yet to see a tech consulting an owner's manual for service information-they're not updated with feedback as shop manuals are.

Kilroy,

RE-READ YOUR SECOND POST TO THIS DISCUSSION!!! It seems pretty cut and dried to me.

Your Ford service manual specifically states the exact opposite of your claims. What part of:

"Do not add orange coolant to your vehicle if originally equipped with green coolant."

do you not understand? Where is the mention of flushing and refilling is ok? Where is the documentation from Ford stating it is ok to use extended life antifreeze in an F150? I said FORD, not Prestone, not Valvoline, not Zerex, FORD.

BTW, check my profile to see how non-mechanically inclined I am. I've probably designed more mechanical systems than you've laid your hands on, and if that's not enough I've probably fixed more farm equipment than you've changed your oil.

Guys! If Kilroy wants to void his warranty, let him! If anybody follows his advice and damages their engine, I'm sure Kilroy will gladly pay for the repairs since he's got the backing of the Prestone. Yeah, we all know Prestone knows more about our trucks than Ford does. Uh-huh!

At any rate, the majority of us know how to keep our warranties in force. Switching to another type of antifreeze is just not worth the hassle. I mean, it's pretty dumb to go against the Ford manual since that's what the warranty is based on. I guess some of us just have more money to waste than others.

I wonder if Kilroy's local Ford dealer would switch his truck over to the orange coolant if he asked them?

BTW, isn't Kilroy that dumb looking bald headed cuss who's always peeking over the fence?

Hey, Kilroy. Keep up the swearing and see where it gets ya on this board!

Again, morons, the Ford service manual has NO PROCEDURE for flushing a cooling system, GET IT? Ford dealerships shift cars and pickups over to different anti-freezes all of the time, just like when vehicles are shifted over to R134a from R12, GET IT? Upon switching, NEW warning stickers are added, GET IT? I don't know what kind of an engineer you are Sven, but I'm assuming you're the kind who designed the fuel lines on the old space shuttles, or the kind who authorized the use of shoddy steel in the Titanic, or maybe even the kind who designed the escape hatch in the Apollo 7. That would mean BAD, Sven.

Tell me, morons, EXACTLY what you think would happen by switching? Olga/Sven claims to be an engineer, but has apparently failed chemistry. I am a little curious as to your little explanations aside from "the owner's manual says so."

NICKDJ,

To answer your questions without all the editorials; Is it wise to switch? NO, Your Owner's Manual advised you not to change. Does Ford approve of them in their trucks? NO, why risk a possible problem later down the road.

Kindest regards

I get it. You're posts contradict themselves. First you say the coolants are interchangeable. Then you quote Ford's service manual that states not to put orange coolant into a vehicle orginally equipped with green/yellow coolant. Then you spew rhetoric from Valvoline, Prestone, and others about how orange and green are compatible. Not once have you show any evidence that Ford has ok'd the use of orange coolant in the F150 engines.

When you're old enough to drive to the Ford dealer and ask the service manager for the TSB stating that extended life is acceptable for use in the F150. Until then, quit spewing misinformed, misguided attacks on people that know what they are talking about.

I just had my coolant system flushed or changed at Valvoline. I had green antifreeze when I went in and have green afterwards. Does this meen that the antifreeze in my truck is the right type. Dex-Cool is what I believe they put in.

Drifter, all I know is green/yellow is regular and orange is longlife. If yours went in green and came out green, I'd have to hazard a guess that you don't have the orange longlife antifreeze that's not approved for our trucks.

I don't understand why Kilroy is arguing this so vehemently. The bottom line is why risk it? The green stuff is cheap. It can be found everywhere. It keeps your warranty happy. It's the stuff Ford says to use. It's the stuff the Ford dealer would use.

Kilroy, as for your a/c example, poor choice. Many, if not most, older R-12 systems require replacement of parts to make them compatible with the new refrigerant. At least, that's what I've been told.

I checked and what I have is the Zerex 5/100 antifreeze denoted by its green coloor. There is a 5/150 extended life Zerex denoted by its orange or yellow color. The specifications meets or exceeds Fords ESE.M97B44-A on the 5/100 antifreeze. That said I guess I got the right type.

Cool

It doesn't take a "Rocket Scientist" to figure out that if Ford wanted me to have a shop manual to maintain the warranty on my truck they would have given me one with the truck. They didn't, they gave me an Owners Manual, that, if I do everything they say in there, and use the fluids etc. they call out in there, I WILL NOT void my warranty in any way.Pretty clear to me, and most of the rest of us.

Geez guys,

I was beginning to think I was retarded. Ford tells us to "replace only with whatcha bought it with" so I called Ford and asked if they were tryin' trick us with their owners manuals and they said "no."

Drifter ....... fix your "Borla Cat Back" spelling in your signature, it's too nice a system!
