Question What Constitutes 'heavy duty cooling' with the tow pkg?

I am wondering what components ford 'upgrades'. When you have the tow pkg, the heavy duty cooling is included, what does this mean? I ask because the owners manual gives referance to two different radiators, one being larger than the other. If I have the tow pkg...wouldn't it seem right to have the larger radiator? I ask because I've looked, and I have the smaller one!!!

Good question. I thought my radiator looked a little puny too. When I drained and filled the coolant I think I filled up a 5 gallon bucket and then some! Thats a whole lotta fluid!

I do not have the towing package but I have the 3.73 rear with super cooling and oil cooler. Apparently the 3.73 rear automatically comes with an oil cooler. I have yet to find one.

Typically, towing packages come with heavier suspension parts, heavy duty alternator, heavy duty cooling systems, larger rear gears like 3.73 or 4.10, heavier electrical components, rear hitch and stronger, trans cooler, oil cooler, maybe heavier brake components, better battery....

Some cars offer a taxi option as well.

The HD cooling system is the Auxilliary Tranny cooler and the engine oil cooler (on the 5.4L). The first is a radiator type tranny oil cooler in addition to the one in the radiator. The second is a jacket above the oil filter where coolant coming from the radiator circulates around to cool the engine oil indirectly.

The HD Electrical system consists of a larger alternator and battery. This is part of the towing package as well and some things do overlap. You can get the HD cooling package without getting the Towing package. Or if you get the Towing package and it automatically is a part of it. You will see "credits" for the duplicated things listed on the door sticker if they do overlap.

Guess that still goes back to the origial thought, I have the tow package, along with the smaller radiator, what does it take to get it (short of visiting the parts counter)

You got me. I never heard of the reference to two different radiators before in the same truck. Is this a new thing in the F150's? Back in 97 when I had mine there was one and only one. Hmmmm????

Anyway I can tell you these things cool real well all the time regaurdless of the size of the radiator. Remember, its a Triton! Engine cooling by the radiator and, in addition, the engine oil cooler is enough I think. Its the tranny I worry about!
