Post Problem with factory tach.

My brothers truck has a '97 F-150 XLT. At around 2500 rpm's and under, If he lets off the gas, the tach will jump down suddenly and then jump back up. Anyone ever see this? Thanks.

I'm bumping this thread because I have a similiar problem with my 98 XLT and am trying to find a fix for it besides replacing the tach.

It tends to work fine early in the morning when the engine is cold, but once things warm up the tach fails to register at all and stays fixed at around 500 rpm.

97 F150 Tach ?

Does anybody have a clue what the story is with the tach on these trucks? I also have a "97 F150 with a tach that only works when it wants to. most of the time it works ok but then it will jump all the way to the pin and stick. other times it seems to be only reading one cylinder. it reads about 25 RPM at an idle and maby 300 to 400 at cruise. can anybody help us?
