Help..'01 SuperCrew won't start....
Truck won't start
My '99 Lariat 4.6 has done it again. this is the second time in 4000 miles that the thing won't start. It cranks over but acts like it's nor getting gas or spark. Does anyone have any remedies for this? I have talked to the previous owner and he had no problem with it doing this. Darned nice truck........just wish it would start. Did this once before. It sat for 2 days at the dealers and they went out to check it out and it started. No codes came up or anything. Hate to drive it too far if this is the dependability I'm going to get out of this one. The last one I had was an '86 F-150 with a 300 6 cylinder. It had 208,000 when I sold it and it NEVER did this to me. Any suggestions or help in any way would be greatly appreciated.
unfortunately, we have no solution. Not quite sure how mjs went from starting problem to needing a new engine, but hey...whatever. Mine still does it, i think i'll refer to it as "The Luke Warm Syndrome" as that seems to be the only times it does it. I haven't taken it in as i know i will get the infamous "cannot duplicate problem" cop out from the dealer. I will probably mention it when it goes in for warranty work. Door molding is warped for the second time. I think this starting problem be with us for a while. I really don't think it will never not start. If i give it some gas, it starts immediately.

tfratzke,
The symptoms that I started with was an extended crank time to start the truck. It definately seemed temp dependant. I could turn the furnace in my garage to 50 degrees and reproduce the problem at will. One thing to try, is depress the throttle about 1/4 the way and see if it starts. Mine did. Along with the starting issue, mine also would not idle. For 3 weeks and 3 trips to the dealer, it never set any codes, and they threw parts at it. Finally they did a compression test and found #3 and #6 cylinders had 50lbs. So far, I have had no problems with the new engine.

This happened to me once, and only once. My truck ('01 5.4) was about four months old, this was almost exactly one year ago. It sat overnight in the driveway and wouldn't start. All it would do was crank. It wouldn't pop over at all...like it was getting no fuel. I know you're not suppose to do this with an injected engine, but I pumped it and then just held the pedal to the floor and went for broke. The thing fired right-up, ran smooth like nothing happened and has been fine ever since. When I mentioned it to my dealer I just got this 'DUH' reaction, so I forgot about it.
Good luck.
Good luck.
My '01 5.4 wouldn't start a couple of weeks ago. Cranked fine, but no sign of even attemting to fire. I did have a couple of instances in the month before this where I had extended cranking until it started. Had it towed to the dealer and they replaced the 'crank sensor'?? Starts fine now, but it was so frustrating having to deal with this inconvenience with getting a ride that morning, waiting for a tow, etc.. Also had my driver side seat belt retractor replaced at the same time.
My Supercrew will not start sometimes, the engine just turns, but it does not ignite.
I found that by pressing the gas pedal all the way in, it will start, just remove your foot form the padal quickly.
I think my truck only does it when it has not been running for a while, like overnight, cold or hot weather.

intermitant no start
I was searching and found this(and a few other) posts with this problem.
My 02 SCrew 4.6 occasionally will not start. It first happened 6 - 7 months after our purchase(new in Oct 02) it would turn over but not start - 4 or 5 tries and it started. Since then it's happened periodically, and for no particular reason; cold, warm, hot, driven alot, or not much but has always restarted within a few minutes, Been to the dealer "cant duplicate problem". The 'theft' light in the dash flashes very quickly during the no start problem and the odometer won't display the miles(just dash marks - - - - - ) One time the theft light started flashing while driving on the highway, and the car started 'running funny', then cleared up in 10 - 15 seconds.
2 days ago it wouldn't start again(seems to be 1-2 times a week lately) but this time it wouldn't restart after 15 minutes we called for a tow to the dealership. It took the tow truck 20 min. to get there(still no start). He loaded us up and took us to Ford(15 min trip), he rolled it off the tow truck and - that's right, IT STARTED !!!
So now Ford is calling the "engineers in MI" to see if they know anything
Is there much of this going on? Any way to bypass the anti-theft system? Or is it something to do with the factory alarm that I didn't buy for $500 when I bought the truck?

Sounds like a flaky Powertrain Control Module or a bad wiring connection. The likely reason for the Theft lite flashing and the odo reading all dashes is that the Instrument Cluster was not getting the appropriate data from the PCM during that time period.
I'd have them check the connectors at the PCM and see if a terminal is loose.
