Help..'01 SuperCrew won't start....

Started truck yesterday morning and it ran a little rough while I moved it to the other side of the driveway, didn't think too much of since it was so cold outside.

Last night went to start the truck to take it for a spin....no start...
the engine will crank over with no problem, it seems like I am not getting a spark at all. I checked the fuel shut off valve according to the manual and it was okay, but I don't know where to start now.

Truck has 53k miles.

Follow up:
Truck started up today, ran rough for a few minutes and now it idles just fine, no problem with the power or any indications of problems.

??
I hate these intermitant problems.
Should Ford be able to read the codes and tell me what the issue is?

Interesting....

Mine did this the 2nd day i had it! Even every once in a while to this day i will go to start it and it just cranks. After about 2 or 3 tries, it starts. Verys strange. I think others have had this problem too. VERY annoying! I think it's abviously an issue, but where to begin to look i have no idea. Another nice option from Ford i guess.

Mine too! Just started on 1/24/02. Mine will run but misses very bad. Does the same thing my father inlaws did just before his quit running.

Ford replaced the coil pack four times until they finally realized the computer was burning up the coils. Since the new computer the problem has been fixed for the past year. Not sure if this helps or not.

try the IAC (idle air can).it can make a rough idle, and wont let it start.next time it wont start tap on the can

I am also having a similar problem that started yesterday. When I try to start the truck, it will crank over for about a minute, then will finally fire and run, but idles really bad. I was able to limp it over to the dealer and actually seems to run OK, as long as I am on the gas. They were able to get the truck in to the shop this morning, so I should hear something today.

I had the same problem with my 2000 F-150. Took it to the dealership and the problem was my fuel pump and the IAC had to be clean. Also, they suggested, which I had already done, is at 30k make sure to have the fuel injection clean and the fuel filter clean.

Just got my truck back from the dealer. There were two issues.
The IAC was sticking and the fuel pump was bleeding down some.
They said it was most likely the IAC, but did the fuel pump anyway. I hope this time it lasts a little longer than 3 months!

Looks like I spoke too soon. I picked up the truck at the dealer and it ran OK on the way home(20 miles). But when I pulled in my driveway, it was missing when idling. Called the dealer back and he claimed bad gas(ya right). I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ran the tank down to empty and filled back up. No change, in fact the starting problem has returned along with the poor idle.

These vehicle problem are sure getting old. I traded off my problem plagued 01 F250 for the Supercrew and so far in 3 months I have had:

1. No start/poor idle problem - not resolved
2. Truck will not come out of 4x4 at times - not resolved
3. Bad wiring harness to trailer connectors - resolved

Looks like Ford's new slogan should be:

"Quality is job NONE"

My 97f150 4.6 has idled rough from day one. Even after the tune ups it still has a weird idle. I cleaned the butterfly according to one mechanic. Seemed to clean it up a little. (manufacture says dont do this) I had it in the shop for the transmission rebuild and my rental was a 2001. I thought now I'll see how smooth an idle should be. I was shocked, It had 600 miles on it and it idled worse than mine. Go figure. I think it has something to do with the reformulated gas in the Houston area. My next guess would be some sort of engine motor mount dampner.

Mine does it too! But only when luke warm, never a problem when hot or cold. Going to the dealer on thursday to have my correct radiator installed, service dept will look at it then.:)

Whitengrey,
I think you are onto something. My truck has the poor idle/no start when it is around 40-50 degrees outside. I can reproduce it upon will when it's sitting in my garage(keep it at 50 degrees) I brought it back to the dealer for the 3rd time last week. This time we pulled it into the shop and had the mechanic look at it. Couldn't reproduce the no start issue, but it was idling poorly. After siting for 30 minutes in the shop, they could not get the truck to start. I did find however that if I press the throttle slightly, it will start. Today is the 5th day in the shop, I sure hope they get it right this time.

Just talked to the dealer. They found a bad EGR valve. replaced that on Friday and tested the starting and idle constantly over the last 3 days. A friend of mine is the service manager and he is confident that it is fixed. I will find out when I pick it up tonight.

My fingers are crossed!

Even though i hope this is the answer, i doubt it. I can't believe all of us have bad EGR valves. But who knows...maybe that is the problem. Great point about the truck being luke warm. That's when mine does it too...never when hot or cold.
Keep us informed and good luck!

Tony
