Question How to hop up a 93 302?

So far I've put Hypertech pulleys and Gibson exhaust (the one that goes out the side) on there. One of the lifters is going bad, and since it needs replacing anyway, I was wondering if I should just buy one of those high-perf cam and lifter kits. Will that help on power? Or any other suggestions? Also, a friend gave me a custom chip for his 94 Lightning. But I figure my tranny isn't up to it. Anyway, new to this board, like what I see.

j.deka: That chip your friend gave you won't work in your truck... the L has a 351, not a 302. If you want a chip, the chip to get is a Superchip from Mike Troyer. He's here on this board a lot.

You can get tons of power out of these 302s... you just have to set a price range. Heads, Intakes, Rockers, Cam... there's a lot of things you can do.

The big question before you start moding however, is do you have mass-air or speed density?

The biggest restriction on the 302s is the heads. If you want the most power for the money, look into a good set of aftermarket heads.

Buy a stroker kit and make the 302 a 347 or replace it with a 351. Sounds extreme but a lot of improvement at one time.

Summit catalog,
Trickflow TW-heads, TF upper and lower intake, and a good cam. Combined with making sure all your intake is opened up to about 70 mm or so. With this set up you'll need to turn your fuel pump up.

"a 351 windsor 1969 C90E block (9.48 deck height) .030 over, .010/.010 under stock crankshaft, 5.95(stock length) rods, SRP/JE flattop pistons. Cam at 220*/228* at .050 and .542/.563 lift at the valve w/ 1.6 roller rockers.
This equated to 344.5 rwhp and 372.1 ftlbs.
403/435 at the flywheel.
This was w/ the Trick flow heads and intake.

Good luck.
BTW. for about 1700, the heads and intake and a cam on your 302 will equate to about 325hp, from all my past calculations.
The throttle bodies and egrs etc... won't make too much extra power but will help it flow freeier and let the power come on "easier".

Becareful what you do with your speed Density efi system. It limits alot of performance.

You can still get alot of power out of the 5.0L. To me, its a misjudged engine. Ever wonder why so many Mustang's used it?

Jason's got 7.5 second's from his 5.0. I'll bet a 5.8L can't do much better if at all.

The stroked 5.0 is a cool idea. But it wouldn't last any time.

The motor is bored .30 over and has a 3.40" stroke. I believe it puts out over 300hp though.
