Cleaning Engine
I was wondering, how do you clean your engine? Just the surface, withouth using that freakin engine degreaser, it says to tape all this stuff up, i jsut wanna take some of the dust off.

I have found that if your motor is already clean, then just washing it with your car wash soap and rinsing it off about every other car wash never lets the motor get dirty enough to need those cleaners. I think those cleaners are for leaking or neglected motors.
I use that armor-all multi purpose cleaner and it comes out real good. Here is a picture to look at.......steve and no I don't have a leaking or neglected motor. It puts a nice faint little shire on it too.

Mr. Clean also works wonders. Don't use the ultra concentrated stuff, just the regular Mr. Clean. Put it in a spray bottle, and spray everything. I usually walk away and let it dry. Go back and wash it off. Gives everything a nice luster and gets all that black plastic looking really dark black and clean again.

I just use plain old gunk engine degreaser,
seems to work fine. Then I spray it down with
silicone dressing, let it soak in awhile then
wipe off the excess. This makes mine look better than new. it does wear the painted on
wiper cap lettering off,but I know where it
is so it's no big deal to me. I do wrap up my
K/N fipk so I won't get water in it,and I do
own a pressure washer. They really are worth
the money(get one)!

Engine degreaser and a pressure washer. I then use an air compressor to blow off the water on the electrical componets.

Just a pressure washer sprayed "over top" of the engine compartment so as not to get the electronic components directly hit by the water. As far as I'm concerned, water won't hurt anything if it's used with some common sense (don't spray the pressure washer 2 inches away from a sensor, etc.). After all, water gets up in there anyway so I'm sure it won't hurt a thing.
After that I take it for a drive and the heat from the engine compartment combined with the force of gravity, usually evaporates/gets rid of anything that would be a big deal. My truck is a 97 and I'm proud to open the hood and see no build up, etc. However, after looking at steveo's engine, I'll think I'll try some of that cleaner also . . . looks sharp.

Yea, a pressure washer will never touch my engine. My brother has one that will strip the paint off a car.

I just have a little K'archer electric. doesn't do any damage, just cleans it til it
shines. I guess a 3000 psi gas powered one
could strip the plating off the fuel rails, lol
