Ping, Ping?
I notice that when I accellerate from a dead stop I have some Detonation right off Idle...It is clearly audible!...I basically shut off my AC, my radio, and closed my windows to see if I was just "hearing things"..Unfortunatly, I wasnt...I wonder why Ford Reccomends 87 octane (regular) for our trucks..Especially if It is going to make the engine ping like this...Since then I have started running 89 with slightly less detonation...
For your information I am running Quick Trip Gasoline, which is a product of Keenan Oil...Keenan also supplies Shell and Citgo with their gasoline in this area...
Any of you guys having similar situations?

I have also noticed this. It only does it for a moment so I'm not to concered with it.If it did this constantly, I would be concerend. But mine doesn't, it does it just like yours. I was going to put a bottle of Chevron gas cleaner in it to see if that helps, but I havn't been able to find any around my area. I have the 4.6L and an automatic transmission.
You might want to do a search on this topic and see what you can find. I know it has been discussed before.

My truck HATES citgo gas. we have a WaWa convenience store and gas station close to work. They sell their own brand of gas but a friend of mine worked there for a while and said it was really Citgo gas. My truck gags on it. Pings, knocks, hesitates runs like crap. Now go across the street to a coastal. They have their own refinery, a little better grade of gas. Same price as WaWa. I also run 89 octane. Truck likes it alot better.

I was having this problem so I switched to Mowhawk gasoiline which was 89 Octane. The pinging went away but I got more carbon build up and puffs of smoke when I hit the throttle hard. I read on the boards somewhere that the carbon would be caused from using higher octane than the factory program allows . . . something about burn rate.
Then I got some advive on the boards about Chevron techron. I went and bought a bottle and was going to use it but before I did I switched back to 87 octane Chevron gas (which has techron additives in it in Canada . . . maybe the US also). I used a few tanks and the original fuel additive I bought is still on my kitchen table because I haven't needed it. My truck runs much better on that 87 Chevron than the 89 I was using previouslly . . . and no pinging !
Try out the Chevron gas with techron. Give it a few tanks and I'm sure you will see some improvement.

My grandfather used to be a Gulf/Chevron jobber here in Texas until he sold out and went fishing(at the time it was a merger of the best Additive company and the best gasoline company in the nation), and that Techron stuff kicks butt! And every tanker load he sent out to filling stations had a case of plain wrapper bottles that were poured in right along with the fuel into the underground tanks--Yep-techron in every tank!
